New Winter Term ClassesEnjoy the richness in the OLLI class offerings including 65 brand new classes, 14 new facilitators, and 47 proven oldies but goodies — many deepening their popular subject matter.

New Camp Verde LibraryThe beautiful new Camp Verde Library is the primary location for OLLI classes in Camp Verde. There are 13 class offerings in Camp Verde this Winter with three in the early evening, (OLLI@Nite). Check them out!

OLLI@NiteAs we continue the expanded hours for OLLI classes this term, there is so much to be enjoyed. The successful OLLI@Nite program that we inaugurated in the Fall continues during Winter term with eight

new offerings. The “One-day University Lecture Series” continues and offers six new lectures with recordings of professors from the finest universities, presenting special two-hour versions of their best lectures. Sedona has six classes in the early evening and Camp Verde has three evening workshops.

New Website Our new website, www.ollisedonaverde.org, continues to be enhanced. Be sure to mark it as a “favorite” on your computers and phones. It contains on-going updated information regarding classes and events, (some new to the Winter term, coming in after the Winter catalog has been published). You can peruse class offerings, select what you want to take, print the registration form and register on-line. The Winter term classes will be available in the new website before the Winter catalog is distributed. Register early and over the Holidays from this website.

A Taste of OLLI — OLLI Winter Open HouseVerde Valley Campus (Clarkdale)Thursday, January 18 9:30 a.m. –1:30 p.m., Room M-137

Come sample classes, meet facilitators, and decide what to sign up for this Winter term. Also, enjoy good food and drink, meet-up with OLLI members, and make new acquaintances.

An All-embracing OLLI OpportunityAre you enthusiastic about OLLI? Wanting to take a bunch of classes and curious about how it all comes together? We started a program this last Fall term that we want to expand. It is the Learn & Serve OLLI Ambassador program. Gift OLLI with your skills and a little time and OLLI will gift you with unlimited classes and events. There are two areas that we are recruiting for this Winter term — Office & Event Ambassador (Customer service savvy and Microsoft Office application skills); Curriculum & Catalog Advancement Ambassador (organization, presentation, and persistence prowess, community outreach with existing and new facilitators). Your life skills are valued and your contributions to these important areas would be greatly appreciated. Call the office 649-4270 to discuss the possibilities that would serve you and OLLI.

Wisdom, Beauty & TeaThis last Fall term we experimented with a new way to connect OLLI members with some exceptionally creative local residents. The program was called Wisdom, Beauty & Tea because at each weekly session we gained Wisdom from the author of a thought-provoking book, Beauty was provided by a renowned artist, and tea was served, along with delicious pastries created that day by the Yavapai College Sedona Culinary program staff and students. The two guests of honor at each session were interviewed by this program’s organizers: Paul Friedman and Shaeri Richards. With them, we got to know up-close and personal, some of our most knowledgeable and talented local residents! It was held in the newly renovated Atrium of the Yavapai College Sedona Center, and it was open to the public and free. The program was a great success! However, to continue, we need a few more helping hands. That will diffuse and lighten everyone’s responsibility. If you’re interested in becoming a member of that team, just email Paul Friedman at [email protected].

Financial CornerMore than ten years ago, we were extremely fortunate to have received a two-million-dollar endowment from the Osher Foundation. This endowment benefits our OLLI and the Prescott

OLLI. We are able to withdraw 5% per year. The split between the two OLLIs is based on annual membership totals. The annual withdrawal delivers about $50,000 for our OLLI and helps to pay a portion of our operating expenses. Due to inflation, we have lost approximately $200,000 in purchasing power within the last 10 years. Our intent is to restore the actual purchasing power to where it was 10 years ago. We need your help. A donor initiative has begun addressing the various ways to establish endowment funding that brings us back in balance, to ensure maintaining our low fee structure. Stay tuned.

The Re-designing of OLLI Is UnderwayLast Fall we gathered to discuss ways to improve our OLLI. This one-day event generated six areas where volunteers were willing to put forth efforts to kick-it-up a notch and get some great initiatives going. The six areas are:

• Facilitator team (training of all sorts for facilitators)

• Appreciation team (appreciation of facilitators, staff, volunteers, and College)

• Website development team

• Technology team (focus on transmitting programs from one campus to another)

• Jolli OLLI (activities outside of classes at OLLI)

• Intensives team (class format to allow deeper dive into a subject)
