Lipscomb Academy4517 Granny White Pike

Invite your friends to join us for a special evening of worship and fellowship in the park (Lipscomb Academy). Worship begins at 5:00 followed by a brown-bag dinner. Bring your meal, blankets, and chairs.

INNER CITY MINISTRY AT HILLSBORO needs your help! The covers to the "Scripture Scrapbooks" that the children will be making must be decorated. Join Dawn Elledge next Sunday, September 9, at 4:00 pm in the tan room for pizza and scrapbooking.

WEDNESDAY PM CLASSESSEPTEMBER - NOVEMBER 2012Ladies' Class | James—Mercy Triumphs (room #329): This is a Beth Moore in-depth study on the life and book of James. Come see how the brother of Jesus went from being a man in doubt to a man with confidence. This is a great study on practical Christian living. —Jenny Simmons

The Third Option (Marriage & Family Center from 6:00-7:30): This program helps participants build stronger, more fulfilling marriages. A comprehensive set of practical tools will be presented that couples can use to develop better understanding, sensitivity, and trust while learning more effective communication (speaking and listening). These skills will be helpful for any marriage—from those experiencing trouble to those wanting to make a good marriage even better. —Kevin Bowen & John Conger

The Whole-Hearted Marriage (six-week class; room #328): Using the book by Dr. Greg Smalley and Dr. Shawn Stoever, this class will examine what God desires in marriage—our entire hearts and emotions. We will discuss reasons why hearts become hard or closed, and solutions to opening our hearts to a happy and fulfilling marriage. This class is for married couples of all ages. The book will be provided as an additional source for class discussion. —Mike and Teresa Green

The Heavens Declare (Chapel): This will be a mix of lecture, video and hands-on observation of the heavens and astronomy from a Biblical perspective. Not too technical or a classic scripture text study, but still inspirational, using scripture and the heavens. Topics include Worldview, Astronomy in Scripture, The Splendor of God's Creation, Objects Sizes Distances and Tools, Big Bang and Creation, Distant Starlight, and many more. —Dan Rucker

Christian Evidences | Examination of the Biblical Worldview (room #330): What is it? Is there a conflict between religion and science? Could the Bible really be true? What does the evidence show? —Richard Walker

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY CHILDREN'S WORSHIP will not meet today. Children's Bulletins filled with fun activities for ages 3-6 and 7-12 are available at the entrances to the front of the auditorium.

Daniel Hope September 2, 2012

As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.

And this is what he promised us—eternal life. -1 John 2:24-25

John’s experiences with Jesus convinced John that:

A NOTE FROM DAN RUCKERServing as an elder at Hillsboro has been

one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have truly received more than I have given. The time has come in my life for me to step down from the eldership. There are those who assume these things happen due to a conflict or disagreement over major issues or direction in the eldership. However, this is just not true in my case. There simply are some God-given roles and responsibilities in my life with family and business that have been and will continue to demand more of my energy and time. In order to do the things that only I can and must do, I find that I need to simplify life some.

I can leave my role as elder because we have remaining elders who are faithful to Christ, strong, solid, gifted with leadership and fully capable to shepherd us. We are in good hands. I can tell you firsthand that our elders are men who love you and genuinely care for your souls. You and I can trust them, love them, follow them, and do whatever and everything they ask of us. Forgive them on the rare occasion they make a mistake. They love it when we pray for them. We will be blessed if we do these things.

Thank you all for the love and support you have shown me and for allowing me to be one of your elders. Amy and I will continue to be very involved here at Hillsboro and treasure the relationships we have with you all.

Finally, I leave you all a scripture to ponder. In John 10:10b Jesus says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” So enjoy your relationships in Christ. It’s all about relationships. Seek the full life. You’ll find it in Him. Be blessed and be a blessing. —Dan Rucker

LIVING ITFRIENDSPEAK is a great way to make new friends and share the gospel at the same time. The program begins this Wednesday evening at 6:45 and volunteers are needed! Contact Kira Fleshman ([email protected]).

Lessons from Mayberry (West FH): God provides learning opportunities for us everywhere, and we've discovered some valuable lessons in the television series "The Andy Griffith Show." You'll be entertained by Andy, Barney, Aunt Bee, Opie, and Goober; but you'll also see Christian truths in their actions. Join us as we review 13 episodes in 13 weeks and reveal some very Godly principles to help steer our lives. —Paul Nance

I and II Timothy (East FH): A chapter-by-chapter study of I and II Timothy. The class will study and discuss intent and meaning of the text in the 1st century context as well as practical application for today. —Randall Pardue & A.M. Burton

Hillsboro Young Adults (room #331): This class is for recent college graduates and those in their early 20s. —Ryan Boyd

YOUNG AT HEARTDr. Fred Frawley, well-known folklore

storyteller, will be our special guest at our next potluck dinner on Monday, September 10, at 6:00 pm in the fellowship hall. For more than 20 years, Dr. Frawley has entertained young and old alike with his Southern Appalachian tales and tunes.

THE MESSAGE OF 1 JOHN, PART THREE

The purpose of Life Groups is to develop strong relationships with Christian friends, offer opportunities to share Christ with others, and grow in spiritual maturity. As God’s Word is discussed and applied in a small setting, better and stronger connections can be formed within the body. Those relationships can provide help in times of need and encouragement to live in accordance with God’s will. At Hillsboro, we rely on God’s Word for the life-transforming message. Our Life Groups will provide a relationship component which many seek for extra support in applying the message. Sign up today online at www.hillsboro.org or call the church office. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, September 5.
