Welcome to Country P&C MEETING CALENDAR OF EVENTS Georgetown SS Explicit Improve- ment Agenda – Improving com- prehension through vocabu- lary development Well Done Georgetown State School and families! We have had two great sports days and students we can be proud of. Both days were a great success due to the organisational expertise, commitment from the P&C, staff and families. I could start listing names but po- tentially may leave off some as there were so many that contributed to the days – so a big Thank You to everyone. So now Athletics is over we move into Hockey and Basketball getting ready for the Kurumba visit in week 10. Kelly Bethel, will coach the teams to prepare the students for the hockey competition. Training starts this Thursday. We are looking for a Basketball coach that could come in on Thursday afternoons from 1.30pm to 3.00pm. This would require them to be able to travel to Karumba for the Carnival in week 10. We are very excited to have a well-known local author, Ian McIntosh, visit our school on Monday 29 July. He will be supporting the stu- dents in working towards their English assessment which is a Poetry based unit. He will visit the P-2 in the morning and then work with the 3-6 for the rest of the day. We are looking forward to having his expertise and creativity in our school. This Friday and Saturday the Variety Bash will be visiting Georgetown. Through the organisation of the wonderful P&C the Variety Bash have donated $6000 worth of sports equipment for the students to use. It is a donation that will certainly be put to good use by the students. Saturday morning, around 7.30am, the Variety Bash will be presenting the sports equipment to the students and judging the students colouring-in competition (a drone and camera as prizes), on top of having a magician to do a show for the students. It will be a great morning and it would be great if we could have as many students as possible to be part of the celebrations. Anne Coase Acting Principal Are you Reading Tonight? Hockey Training will commence this Wednesday the 31st of July at the Gregg Bethel Me-morial Oval 3.30pm to 5pm. This is a try out/sign on session so come along and have a go. From then on, training will be every Thursday at 3.30pm unless otherwise advised and with only 6 weeks training until the Carnival, it is vital that everyone attend training where possible. It is a requirement that students wear a mouth guard when training and competing. If anyone is needing a new mouth guard, Kelly will be able to bring them back this weekend. Please let her know at training this week or contact the school and we will pass it on. They are usually around $20. Everyone must have one by week three training.

Basketball will be starting up as well this week. Miss C who is visiting us for a few weeks will do some training on Thursday afternoons for PE. We will also have some-one training one day a week after school and will get more information on that next week.

If anyone is available to help cater for the Variety Bash Breakfast on Saturday the 3rd of August it would be greatly appreciated. The P & C are doing breakfast for 280 people from 6.30am. If you can assist please contact Kristy on 0429 938 867. The Bash would like to see students turning up from 7.30am. They have a magician show, colouring competition, presentation of the donation , Hippy Boys LOVE-PEACE & INTEGRITY Award. Come along and thank them for their kind donation.
