We are trying to manufacture future NHL’ers,

and if we do create good people that’s by

divine intervention. We need to flip that and

manufacture good people and if we create an

NHL’er along the way that’s divine intervention.#YYCHKYLEADERS

WHO:- PeeWee, Bantam, and Midget aged players.

- Captains and Alternates (Team Leaders).

- Male and Female athletes

- Rec League to Elite level players.

WHAT:- One day high energy workshop.

- Mixing guest speakers, break out sessions, and activities.

- Emphasising basic elements of leadership, teamwork,

respect, fun, and citizenship.

WHERE:

- BIG FOUR (Stampede Grounds)

WHEN:- Monday, October 16, 2017.

- (Public School PD Day)

WHY:- To support the work of coaches, associations & Hockey

Calgary who are emphasising teamwork and leadership.

- Take advantage of people and resources that are available

to us in the Calgary sports community.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

- To encourage the basic principles of teamwork and leadership.

- To help guide players in general principles of team dynamics.

- To connect the positive attributes that successful athletes share and

are able to transfer to their off ice lives.

- To encourage sportsmanship, respect, inclusion, positive conflict

resolution, and fun.

EXAMPLE OF POTENTIAL MORNING SPEAKERS:

- Mike Cvik former NHL Linesmen to talk about positive player

relationship with officials.

- Tom Higgins former CFL Head Coach to talk about coach player

relationships.

- Randy Chevrier former CFL player and Dare to Care facilitator to

talk about dealing with bullying behaviour in the dressing room.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS:

- Team building exercises.

- Problem solving sessions.

AFTERNOON SESSIONS:

- Captains Panel would be made up of local sports Captains that would

work as an interactive conversation about best practices for leaders.

- Role Playing Session would be a handful of real life controversial

events that the audience would be challenged to try and find the

appropriate ways of handling.

- Key Note Speaker would wrap up the day and drive home the

messaging of the event.

GUEST SPEAKERS: (Depending on availability)- Access to players and staff of the Calgary Flames.

- Access to players and staff of the Calgary Hitmen.

- Access to members of the Flames Alumni.

- Working on securing members of the Calgary Inferno and the National Women’s

team.

- Working to secure players and staff of the Calgary Stampeders.

- Working on securing players and staff of the Calgary Roughnecks.

- Working on other like minded colleagues and contacts that can support the vision

of the event.

ONLINE CONTENT:

- Creating a library of content in both audio and written form that

compliments the messages from this workshop.

- Utilizing voices from all different sports to reinforce the importance

of leadership and teamwork. This would include guest speakers and

sessions from the event.

- Content would be available through Hockey Calgary’s online

platforms.

- Allows the workshop to live beyond the event.

- Encourages the use of social media in a positive manner.

FAQ:How many participants do you anticipate?

- We are hoping for a group of 500-600 Calgary and area players to attend.

Will you provide lunch?

- Yes!

Would you need audio visual?

- Yes, to show videos and also to encourage the positive use of social media during

the event.

Are the Calgary Flames involved?

- Yes, as we have a pledge of support from the GM and his staff.

Do you have a long term vision for this event?

- Yes, I see this as a possible step toward a “We Day” like event for young athletes.

OPTIONAL COMMUNITY PROJECT:

- After the workshop we want to do something positive within the

community.

- An event/project that would reinforce the elements of leadership and

teamwork that we emphasized during the workshop.

- It will be optional and we would ask participants to register ahead of

time so we know numbers.
