European Competition »THE HEINRICH«Audience Award for European debut and second features
Requirementsgenre: feature minimum runtime: 70 min format: 35 mm or DCP director must be European citizenfilm must be produced after January 1st, 2012German premieres preferredprize money: 10.000 EUR, shared between director and German distribution company
»KINEMA« French-German Youth AwardCompetition for debut and second films in German or French language
Requirementsgenre: feature minimum runtime: 70 min format: 35 mm or DCPfilm must be in French or German languageprize: production of a new subtitled copyjury: five young French and German adults aged 16-23Supported by the French-German Youth Council (DFJW/OFAJ)Patron of KINEMA is actress Hanna Schygulla
The Short Film Music Competition »THE LEO«International competition for the best combination of music/sound and image in a short film (jury award)
Requirementsmaximum runtime: 15 min format: 35 mm and digital video (DCP, Beta SP, digiBeta, DV, mini-DV, Blu-ray Disc)film must be produced after July 1st, 2012prize money: 2.000 EUR, equally shared between director and composer

Started by a handful of cinema enthousiasts in 1986, Braunschweig International film-fest has developed into an audience festi-val for 25,000 visitors. Around 280 film industry professionals – filmmakers, actors, producers, composers, press – attend the festival to see about 170 full-length and short films on six screens. Young European cinema of the highest standard is one of the festival’s trademarks. “Music & Film” is the festival’s second focal point. Portraits of film composers, a music

master class and film concerts in coopera-tion with the Braunschweig State Orchestra are cornerstones of the programme.International premières, cinéma d’auteurs, film concerts, retrospectives, tributes and four awards round off the filmfest’s profile, giving the audience and the press ample scope for new discoveries.The filmfest’s main prize is the European Actors Award »THE EUROPA« with a purse of 10.000 EUR sponsored by Volkswagen Financial Services.
