Cutting Fabric A, cut:(1) 8” x 11” (20.32 x 27.94cm), for pocket

Fabric B, cut:(1) 41⁄2” x 6” (11.43cm x 15.24cm), for flap(1) 25⁄8” x 14” (6.67cm x 35.56cm), for strap(1) 11⁄4” x 22” (3.18cm x 55.88cm) bias, for binding (piece as needed)

Fabric C, cut:(1) 8” x 11” (20.32cm x 27.94cm), for pocket lining(1) 41⁄2” x 6” (11.43cm x 15.24cm), for flap lining

Batting, cut:(1) 41⁄2” x 6” (11.43cm x 15.24cm)(1) 8” x 11” (20.32cm x 27.94cm)

Fusible interfacing, cut:(1) 8” x 11” (20.32cm x 27.94cm), for pocket(1) 41⁄2” x 6” 11.43cm x 15.24cm), for flap

Preparation:1. Following the manufacturer’s instructions, fuse the

interfacing to the wrong side of both Fabric C rectangles. Layer the corresponding Fabric A rectangle right side up, batting, and interfaced lining fabric right side down. Machine quilt as desired. Quilt the 41⁄2” x 6” (11.43cm x 27.94cm) flap Fabrics B and C in the same manner. The pouch pieces are cut from the quilted fabrics.

Sewing Note: All seams are 1⁄4” (.64cm) and pieces are sewn right sides together.

2. Cut (2) 45⁄8” x 63⁄4” (11.78 cm x 17.15 cm) pocket rectangles from the 8” x 11” (20.32cm x 27.94cm) quilted rectangle and finish both sides and the bottom using a zigzag or serging. Cut the flap from the 41⁄2” x 6” (11.43cm x 15.24cm) quilted rectangle using the Flap Template.

3. To make the bias binding, fold the long sides of the bias strip in half, wrong sides together, and press.

4. Bind the long edges and wide straight end of the flap; do not bind the long, narrow strap end. Insert the narrow strap through both D-rings and fold toward the flap underside. Turn the strap end under 1⁄4” (.64cm) and stitch 1⁄8” (.32cm) from the fold.

5. Make the straps by pressing in 1⁄4” (.64cm) on the long sides of the 25⁄8” x 14” (6.67cm x 35.56cm) Fabric B strip. Wrap the fabric around the firm sew-in interfacing strip, bringing one folded side over the other at the strap center. Edgestitch the fold down the strap center. Cut a 9” (22.86cm) length off the strap for the back of the Phone Pouch carrier.

6. Fold 1⁄4” (.64cm) under on both ends of the 9” (22.86cm) strap to the seam side and press. Insert the strap into the swivel latch loop and fold over 5⁄8” (1.59cm) to the seamed side. Stitch 1⁄8” (.32cm) away from folded edge. Repeat for the other strap end. Center the strap on top of one pocket piece with seam up and with the folded edge of the strap 1⁄2” (1.37cm) above top pocket edge. Edgestitch both sides of the strap stopping 11⁄4” (3.18cm) from the ends.

7. On the remaining 5” (12.70cm) strap section, fold 1⁄4” (.64cm) on one end to the seam side and stitch 1⁄8” (.32cm) away from fold. Fold the other end to the right side of the strap and stitch 1⁄8” (.32cm) away from the fold. Center the latter end 23⁄4” (6.99cm) above the bottom edge of remaining pocket piece and stitch 1⁄8” (.32cm) away from the fold.

8. Fold the bottom of the straps in toward the pocket center and pin to keep them out of the way. With right sides together, stitch around the sides and bottom of the pocket front and back, pivoting at bottom corners and being careful not to catch the strap ends. Box the lower corners by folding each bottom corner with the side and lower seam matching. Stitch across corner at a right angle to the seams, making a triangle measuring 3⁄8” (.96cm) tip to base. Trim the corners close to stitching. Press seams open. Turn the pocket right side out pulling on the strap to help turn.

9. Bind the top edge of the pocket in same manner as the flap, folding 3⁄8” (.96cm) under at the binding starting/ending point.

10. Slide the flap top into the upper pocket opening, just past the binding and right sides facing the pocket lining. Topstitch through all layers on the original stitching of the outer pocket binding. Close the flap and secure with D-rings.
