Reduces waste because its a pre-metered system that applies all of the coating fluid to thesubstrate via a positive displacement pump and slot die. This differs significantly from rollcoating, where the amount of fluid applied depends on factors such as fluid viscosity and rollspeed. Sincere there is no excess fluid to be reclaimed when using a slot die, volatile emissionsare minimized.

Increase production rates because of three factors first, you have a large window forthickness variation (from micron to 90 mil) with the same die rather than, like in roll coating, changing rolls for each new coating thickness formulation. Second, the slot die is lesssusceptible to film-splitting and ribbing defects that can develop at higher line speeds. Asharp final edge on the wiping lip provides a clean break-away point for the fluid so none of the

fluid remains on the applicator. Lastly, fixed slot coating is capable of coating a higher viscositythan roll coating so coating liquid can be modified to have a higher concentration of solids, allowing quicker drying.

More uniform coating because the flatness of our dies allows a coating weight accuracy of +/- 1-2% depending on fluid rheology. The slot dies manifold is designed to uniformly distribute thefluid, based on the fluid rheology and anticipated throughput rates. In a fixed slot die, thereplaceable body shim works in combination with the manifold for distribution effects. The diestation accurately and precisely positions the slot die relative to the back-up roll or substrate forfaster coatings. Cut raw material costs by holding coating consumption to a close-tolerancerange.

Are you able to share what type of coating methods are you using? (Roll/ Gravure coating, Mayer Rod, Slide,Knife over roll, Curtain, Blade, Fixed or Flexible Slot?

What type of solution are you coating solvent-based, water-based/emulsion, hot melt, or UV cured?

How many layers are you coating?

Can you share what kind of issues you would like to improve regarding your coating process, like improving couniformity, increasing production and reducing waste and potential contamination?

Can you share what kind of issues you would like to improve regarding your coating process, like improvingcoating uniformity, increasing production and reducing waste and potential contamination?

Has at any point, your company has looked into or discussed using other coating methods like slot coating?(What sparked the interest? Where the discussion or research go, what was the outcome?) How familiar areyou with slot coating?

    If Roll Coating

What kind of coating line are you currently using, as far as brand?

    What is the coating width?

    Is it a modular unit?

What would you like to do that you that is currently challenging to do with your current coating equipment?

How often, if at all, do you refurbish your slot dies?

So lastly, what thought or discussion has there been regarding either upgrading other existing lines to slotcoating or adding a new line?

    Already in Flexible Lip Slot

When talking with companies that are already using slot coating dies, we often hear they no longer want touse an adjustable die, often due to things like operators messing with the gap because every operator has adifferent way of handling the die, or because they need a more consistent precise slot gap opening.

Are either of these the case for your company or is it something different?

And what is your coating weight accuracy goal/tolerance?

    If Actively Looking

Can you share your general timeline for equipment research?

Has the plan to purchase been approved or is that still being decided?

And is the general plan to purchase the die this year or sometime next year?

Can you share what the decision making process is usually like when investing in new equipment like this?a. Who are the other people, like often well see the process engineer or even VP wanting to be involved

    and having questions early on?

Anytime there is new equipment it brings change and education on the equipment. How has your companyhandled training on new equipment in the past?

Have you been satisfied with the training process?

What though have you given to get other people involved in the discussion, because often at this point the

next step on our end would be to have a phone conference with you and others that would be impacted bythe change/purchase, like the process engineer, people working the line, sometimes the purchasingmanager.

That way we can answer everyones questions and see what kind of interest/ or if it makes sense to schedulea trail run with our process engineer either at your facility or our facility.
