Request: please attend the Town of Sweden Board Meeting On Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 7 PM At the Sweden Town Hall, 18 State St, Brockport, NY 14420 Question to the Town of Sweden Supervisor and Board   what is paralyzing you? What is scaring you from supporting the revitalization of 60 Clinton St? In light of the 200 th  bicentennial celebration, it is hoped that the Town of Sweden will continue to support the history, architecture and economic development of Sweden. Past town-supported projects hav e included; Lakeview Cemetery fountain and Farmer’s Museum on Lake Rd. and Soldier s Monument on Owens Rd. The revitalization project at 60 Clinton St. would continue the town’s restoration efforts and is a great opportunity to work hand in hand with the Village of Brockport and the Brockport School District. How much money was spent on those past projects and how much will they bring in to the town’s tax rolls? The Clinton St. revitalization will initially provide jobs for local contractors and trades people, bring in sales tax income from the workers spending money in the Brockport area. Building materials, supplies and equipment will be purchased locally   again adding to the sales tax income for the town. The revitalized Clinton St. building will increase in value and the business that ultimately resides in the building will bring income to the area. The residents of the three apartments will spend money in the area. The energy of revitalization will radiate out to the rest of the neighborhood and most likely that, too, will improve, attracting more residents and tourists to Brockport, more money and increased quality of living for the area. Concerns have been expressed that the tax abatement is unfair to downtown businesses. Is it fair for Tim Horton’s to get a tax abatement and Coleen’s Café does not - and neither does Java Junction?  Abbott’ s Froze n Custard gets a tax abatemen t and Seward’s Candy and Ice Cream Shop does not? When the Town of Sweden gives a tax abatement to these stores and others such as Lowe’s, Classy Chassy Car Wash, Sodoma Mkt. / gas station and the big one   Wal-Mar t  Town and Village tax payers have to take up the slack and pay higher taxes. National companies like Lowes and Wal-Mart   are they really going to go down the drain if we don’t give them a tax abatement? Supposedly, the hope is that Lowes and Wal-Mart will draw people to the Sweden area. Well that is the same idea for 60 Clinton St; with revitalization, people will be drawn to the area, investing and spending money. The original sites for Lowes, Wal- Mart, Tim Horton’s were grassy fields with a few tr ees   nothing unhealthy, disruptive, unsightly or spreading negative economic impact.

Question to the Town of Sweden Supervisor and Board – what is paralyzing you?

What is scaring you from supporting the revitalization of 60 Clinton St?

In light of the 200 th bicentennial celebration, it is hoped that the Town of Sweden willcontinue to support the history, architecture and economic development of Sweden.Past town-supported projects hav e included; Lakeview Cemetery fountain and Farmer’sMuseum on Lake Rd. and Soldier ’s Monument on Owens Rd. The revitalization projectat 60 Clinton St. would continue the town’s restoration efforts and is a great opportunityto work hand in hand with the Village of Brockport and the Brockport School District.

How much money was spent on those past projects and how much will they bring in tothe town’s tax rolls?

The Clinton St. revitalization will initially provide jobs for local contractors and tradespeople, bring in sales tax income from the workers spending money in the Brockportarea. Building materials, supplies and equipment will be purchased locally – againadding to the sales tax income for the town. The revitalized Clinton St. building willincrease in value and the business that ultimately resides in the building will bringincome to the area. The residents of the three apartments will spend money in the area. The energy of revitalization will radiate out to the rest of the neighborhood and most

likely that, too, will improve, attracting more residents and tourists to Brockport, moremoney and increased quality of living for the area.

Concerns have been expressed that the tax abatement is unfair to downtownbusinesses. Is it fair for Tim Horton’s to get a tax abatement and Coleen’s Café doesnot - and neither does Java Junction? Abbott’s Frozen Custard gets a tax abatementand Seward’s Candy and Ice Cream Shop does not? When the Town of Sweden givesa tax abatement to these stores and others such as Lowe’s, Classy Chassy Car Wash,Sodoma Mkt. / gas station and the big one – Wal-Mart – Town and Village tax payershave to take up the slack and pay higher taxes. National companies like Lowes and

Wal-Mart – are they really going to go down the drain if we don’t give them a taxabatement? Supposedly, the hope is that Lowes and Wal-Mart will draw people to theSweden area.
