A World Class Success !

4th

The Creekside Community came together once again and the results were OUTSTANDING !

The Creekside Cultural Fair was a huge success with more than 700 parents and students

visiting countries from all around the world.

The Creekside Cultural Fair continues to bring people together through embracing and

showcasing the diversity in our school community. It is an opportunity for students to learn a

little bit about each other and the world. The tour starts at the welcome table where they

receive a passport and begin their journey around the world, collecting stamps from every

country while learning fun facts, sample different foods, learn new words in different

languages, play games and make country specific crafts.

There was also a variety of performances from around the world, which everyone enjoyed !

A special thank you to all our hard working Team Managers for guiding our teams through the season and

being the mailing labels and rubber bands that hold the teams together. Thank you to the parents for being

the support and foundation that held our teams up. Thank you to the volunteers who are the paper clip that

kept us organized while being flexible on tournament day. Creekside PTSA (members) and Creekside

staff thank you for being the versatile paper cup sharing in our adventures.

Our Creekside teams spent months solving challenges, designing and building backdrops and large props,

making costumes, writing scripts and songs, small wooden structures able to support hundreds of pounds,

and preparing to improvise a skit in just 4 minutes in front of an audience.

Two teams brought home the bronze for Creekside! "Swimming Turtles" in Structural Challenge and

"The Top 4 JEKS" in the Improvisational Challenge.

Congratulations to all our hardworking and dedicated teams!

CONGRATULATIONS to our 2014 Classroom Enrichment Grant winners! Sixteen teachers from across the District learned of their awards with surprise visits from the Foundation’s Balloon Brigade on Friday, February 28. Books and instructional resources were in high demand with grants awarded for leveled books for kindergarteners, author visits, and applications to help low vision readers. Other winning proposals include “Investigating the Micro-Wold We Live In” at Maywood Middle School, “Writing with ipads” at Maple Hills and greek and latin class materials at Pacific Cascade Middle School. See the complete list of winners here. Nourish Every Mind Breakfast Draws Local Celebrity We’re thrilled to announce that Molly Shen, KOMO 4 news anchor and Issaquah School District parent will emcee our inaugural Nourish Every Mind Breakfast. The Breakfast, like the Luncheon, will feature inspirational speakers, interactive teacher displays and evidence of the impact donor dollars have on our schools. The only difference? …a slightly abbreviated program and early start time. Please Save-the-Date and plan to join us for the Nourish Every Mind Luncheon on Thursday, May 8 or Breakfast on Wednesday, May 14. Proceeds will be used to fund programs and initiatives that benefit every Issaquah School District student. Contact Cathia Geller, Nourish Every Mind Chair for more information. Want to do more? Learn how to become a Table Captain or Nourish Every Mind sponsor. Witness Writing Wizardry This year, Foundation donors underwrote the cost of professional development for the District’s new elementary Writing Curriculum. Last month we had the opportunity to watch author and consultant Matt Glover in action. To say we were impressed would be an understatement. We invite you to experience the Matt effect at “An Evening with Matt Glover” on Tuesday, March 18 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the District Administration Building. Matt will discuss how to instill a love of writing in your child and leave you with tips on how to best help your child flourish. The workshop is free and open to all elementary parents. Did You Know? During the 2012-2013 year, 872 volunteers contributed 32,746 hours to the Foundation. That’s an in-kind donation of nearly $500,000. If you’d like to learn about our many volunteer opportunities, please contact Robin Callahan, [email protected]. Thank you!

Save the Date!

The Issaquah School Foundation is once again hosting a fundraising Luncheon on May 8th from 11:30-1:00pm at its traditional place, at the Issaquah Community Center. It’s a terrific way to support our schools, network with parents, community and business leaders and hear inspirational stories from ISF grant recipients and program participants. You’ll also learn why private support of our public schools has become the only way to ensure student success. There’s no fee for the lunch, but a suggested donation of $150 during the event will go a long way towards reaching the Nourish Every Mind goal. Last year, you helped Nourish Every Mind 2013 raise a record $691,500--nearly half of the Foundation's budgeted revenue. This year, our goal is $744,000. We can't achieve it without you! This year, our event is bigger than ever with the addition of a Nourish Every Mind Breakfast. The Breakfast will take place on Wednesday, May 14 from 7:00 am - 8:30 am at Eastridge Church. Theresa Nguyen, Creekside PTSA ISF Rep, and our very own PTSA President, Kavitha Kumar, will be Table Co-Captains this year. Please contact Theresa Nguyen at [email protected] or Kavitha Kumar at [email protected] if you would like to attend. This is a very big event in our school community and well-attended each year. Don't miss it!

Luncheon: Thursday, May 8th from 11 am – 1 pm at the Issaquah Community Center

Breakfast: Wednesday, May 14th from 7:00-8:30am at Eastridge Church
