Callum Black Project Portfolio
Profile Overview:
Over the past 4 years I have been able to work on some exciting, complex temporary works
structures. Varying in complexity, each project in this portfolio represents typical components used
in innovative ways to overcome issues on site. Whether it is site access, or propping, I have unique
experience in designs and management of superstructure temporary works.
Within each of the shown engineered solutions, there has been the consideration of build ability
and cost, leading to the final design that was consequently installed.

Project Portfolio - Callum Black
Scaffolding
Project Name: Bridge Parapet Encapsulation
Location: Torquay Rail Station
Description: Encapsulation of parapet to facilitate grit blast repairs over low speed rail line. It was required to keep the existing, narrow and weak, bridge open during the works, therefore it was decided that using Haki 750 beams would be the best approach to this project.
Client: Bam Nuttall Ltd
Involvement: Design, Bill of Quantities

Project Name: Bridge Parapet Encapsulation
Location: Bitton Road Rail Bridge, Keynsham
Description: Encapsulation of parapet over high speed train line to facilitate bridge repair works. The structure was built as an up and over scaffold, reducing possession work and allowing the existing road to stay open at the same time.
Client: BAM Nuttall
Involvement: Design, Bill of Quantities

Project Name: Handrail Adjustment
Location: Avonmouth M5 Bridge
Description: Support existing handrail to allow platform to be raised to the underside of the Avonmouth M5 bridge. The structure was required to be initially built off a cherry picker therefore there was a high importance of the build ability of the structure.
Client: Four Tees
Involvement: Design, Bill of Quantities

Project Name: Public Access Staircase
Location: Oxford Museum of History or Science
Description: Allow public access staircase within confined space. The staircase was limited to foundation locations, therefore the structure was built top down, hanging from Haki 450 beams and Layher Public Access staircase and All-round Scaffold.
Client: Oxford University
Involvement: Design, Bill of Quantities, Project Management, Valuations

Description: Scaffold to facilitate repair works to ceiling and dome, while ensuring a minimal foot print and existing staircase stays open. This used various components including but not limited to Layher, RMD Sgperslim and Haki Beams.
Client: Private
Involvement: Design, Bill of Quantities, Project Management

Heavy duty propping
Project Name: Pro Cathedral, Basement opening
Location: Pro Cathedral, Bristol
Description: RMD Megashor was used for propping a 500kN/m unfactored load to facilitate a new structural opening at ground floor.
Client: Vinci
Involvement: Design, Bill of Quantities, Project Management

Project Name: Bristol North Baths
Location: Bristol
Description: Horizontal support to a party wall to allow installation of new foundations near footing of existing wall. RMD Superslim was used to resist the horizontal loads and transmitted the load back into new temporary concrete foundations.
Client: Chatsworth House
Involvement: Design, Bill of Quantities, Project Management
Callum Black Temporary Works Portfolio [email protected] Doc Issued: 18/07/16
Project Name: Pro Cathedral, Level One Opening
Location: Pro Cathedral, Bristol
Description: RMD Superslim was use in a Seesaw propping method due to it being impractical to go to ground. Unfactored loads of 270kN/m meant that RMD Superslim suited these loads but were close to the limit. The new structural opening was for access for the new extension.
Client: Vinci
Involvement: Design, Bill of Quantities, Project Management

Project Name: Tesco Yeovil
Location: Yeovil
Description: RMD Superslim Soldiers to support rear gable wall to facilitate installation of new steel frame. Due to new foundations for the steel frame, it was required to have a larger clear gap than usual, therefore RMD Superslim needles were used with stabilising RMD Superslim rakers.
Client: ISG Retail
Involvement: Design, Bill of Quantities, Project Management

Project Name: 1-3 James St. West
Location: 1-3 James St. West, Bath
Description: Facade Retention to existing building to facilitate demolition of first floor slab and allow installation of new steel frame. Large 1 tonne concrete blocks were used on the RMD Superslim elevation as the only space for the facade retention was the existing pavement. A scaffold tube and fitting solution was more suitable on the other elevations due to more space being made available.
