Conor McElroy, Chris Inston, Andy Kearns and Luke Murphy started at Bishop Challoner Catholic College in 2005. Andy and Chris had been friends in primary school then at eleven years of age they met Conor and Luke in many of their classes, and in January 2008, the four of them decided to form their own band; with Conor on bass guitar and backing vocals, Chris also a backing vocalist focuses on lead guitar, Andy on drums and Luke is the singer providing the lead vocals. They appreciated a wide range of music but say their main inspiration was along the style of 70s rock. This lead to the creation of an Alternative and Punk band with modern infl uences including the likes of Muse, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Blink 182 and Biffy Clyro. Although most of their music consists of covers of songs by such artists, they are now working on new, original material to fi ll the album that they are currently working towards completing. While 2008 held the beginning of their adventure together as a band, making their own covers covers of songs by Green Day and Muse, 2009 held the beginning to their adventure into the world of gigs; they had written their fi rst song called “Listen Up” and used this to obtain victory at the Battle of the Bands competition at Bishop Challoner

Catholic College, they then followed on from this to also win the Battle of the Bands competition that was opened up to allow inclusion of bands from all schools in the surrounding Kings Heath area. This adventure reached new heights in the following year; while they remained an unsigned band, Hunger for Thirst started gigging across Birmingham, supporting more well-known unsigned bands that were causing a stir in Birmingham and the UK. This began on the 21st January, when they supported Sienna at the O2 Academy Birmingham. This adventure stayed in the same location as they continued their

journey to support Scarlet Carmina on the 6th May, and then fi nally supporting Jónsi and Hate the Faith on 9th September in the O2 Academy 3 Birmingham. Andy explained that when they perform at gigs the band get a lot of encouragement from both friends and family before even telling who they are supporting, saying that “Friends give us a lot of support making sure there’s a good turnout for shows and our family’s putting up with all the noise we make” Hunger for

Thirst publicise on the internet through social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, they also showcase their work on streaming services like their own YouTube channel. These are their only locations on the internet because they are yet to be signed by a music company and they therefore lack the funding to reach further into the industry at this stage.

Hunger for Thirst are currently trying to find the right balance between putting together their

first album and completing their

GCSEs. We met up with their drummer, Andy Kearns, who spoke on behalf of the band about their journey so far.
