THE MASTER OF SPORTS MANAGEMENT PROGRAM CONSISTS OFCORE COURSES, MAJOR COURSES AND ELECTIVE COURSES
To accomodate the schedules of busy professionals, our classes are offered one day a week for four hours. The Master Degree in Sports Management program consists of approximately 15 courses.

BUSINESS STATISTICS AND ANALYSISThis course covers the application of Statistics. Derivation of basic statistical concepts used in business. Topics include probability distributions, moment-generating functions, sampling theory, statistical inference, regression, and correlation.
LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIORThis course will review how managers can become effective leaders by drawing on a knowledge of contemporary concepts in the areas of organizational behavior, change and leadership.
LEISURE SPORTS MANAGEMENT 1 This course will build an understanding on leisure sports management. This includes best ways to manage, exercise and teach various leisure sports activities.
SPORTS LAWThis course expands on basic legal concepts involved in the business of sports. Students will be able to understand fundamental legal concepts relevant to tort law, contract law, and constitutional law; identify potential liability situations in the supervision, management and conduct of sport, recreation and physical activity.

RESEARCH METHODS IN SPORTSThis course explores the quantitative and qualitative research methods commonly used in the sports industry. Students will be able to develop an understanding of the principles and processes involved in developing and addressing specific research topics involving sports; and develop core competencies in writing a research proposal.
SPORTS SEMINAR: ADVANCED SPECIAL TOPICThis course engages the student to participate in a seminar on sports development. Special emphasis will be on current events, new programs, policy regulations, and global issues related to the sports industry.
GOLF PSYCOLOGY SEMINARThis course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the theoretical structure that underlies psychology as it has been applied to golf. There will be a particular emphasis on the psychological concerns that confronts coaches, physical educators, organizations, athletes, teams, and highlights optimal performance and the general health benefits of sports.

ADVANCED TURF GRASS MANAGEMENTThis course builds on the foundation of Turf Grass Fundamentals. The focus of this course is on advanced concepts in the areas of soil testing, seed production, seed certification, seed buying, turf grass pests, diseases, fertilization research, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.
TECHNIQUES IN COACHING GOLFThis course involves researching top instructors such as Haney, Harmon, McLean, Hardy, Leadbetter and Pelz to gain an understanding into their teaching philosophies. An emphasis will be placed on developing the student’s own philosophy by evaluating golf skills through practice and lessons.
ADVANCED GOLF RULES AND REGULATIONSThis course will provide in depth explanations into the rules and decisions in golf, rule changes, definitions, etiquette, amateur status and the Royal and Ancient’s relationship with the USGA. The course will also cover past complex golf rulings and the USGA Rules Decisions Book.
GOLF SEMINAR: ADVANCED SPECIAL TOPICS This seminar will introduce graduate students to a variety of tools, techniques and concepts for the formulation and implementation of a science in sports management strategy.

Admission EvaluationApplications will be evaluated after we receive all documents and admission fees. Applicants may be asked to provide additional evidence of academic proficiency. Decisions typically take 3 to 4 weeks. Once your application has been approved, we will issue a Letter of Acceptance and mail the Form I-20* (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Status) from a CALUMS designated school official (DSO). If you’re an international student, proceed to Step 3.

Bachelor Degree DiplomaApplicants must have a minimum 4-year bachelor degree in business related areas such as business administration, business management, management, finance, economics, international business, accounting, entrepreneurship, and human resources. Applicants with non-business related degrees may be required to take prerequisite courses.
Official TranscriptsOfficial transcript must be requested from all colleges or universities previously attended and sent directly to CALUMS in the originally sealed university envelope. Transcripts in foreign languages must be officially translated in English.
Recommendation LetterSubmit at least one recommendation letter from an active member of the academe or a business professional with credentials who can comment objectively about your professional qualifications.
Proof of English Proficiency*If English is not your native language, you must submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score, taken not more than 2 years from the date of application. Conditionally, you may take an English Proficiency test upon your arrival at CALUMS. If you don’t pass the test, you will have to take English Development classes until demonstrating acceptable English proficiency.

Original Financial Statement*An official financial (bank) statement is required to prove that you have the adequate funds to support your education in the United States. from your financial institution on official letterhead and signed by an authorized bank official. This statement must include the total amount stated above.
• If you have a sponsor who will cover your expenses, you must fill out the Affidavit for Financial Responsibility form and have it signed by both the applicant and the sponsor.
