Calvary Connection A Newsletter of Calvary Baptist Church, Elizabethton, TN
Volume XXXVIII Number 5
May 2017
Get-Together event of some kind for parents and children before promotion day. To start the new Sunday School year, we hope to have our preschool info pamphlet printed and ready to give out.
Several “Thank You”s are due here: We thank Kelli Humphreys for agreeing to be our Preschool Parent Liaison; helping to enhance communication with parents, teachers, and Preschool Council. We thank the many “cooking coaches” who made the preschool spring luncheon a success. We thank our anonymous former teacher for her generous donation and for the many snack purchases. And we thank all our teachers and volunteers for their heartfelt dedication, for their faithfulness, and for their love for our children.

Karen, Vicki, Myra and Brenda C.

An Interim Word One special aspect to our church is the dedication, energy and vision of so many of our people who labor here for the Lord. Program planning by our directors has been a hallmark well in evidence, that I have found since coming here.
So, I want to use my newsletter space to commend all of you who, last fall, began to serve (some of you, for many years here) and whose names formed the full report of our Nominating Committee.
The Scriptures encourage us to recognize and remember that “your labors are not in vain, in the Lord” (I Cor. 15:58). The work of a united body of Christ can be an inspiration to us all, and actually fosters the furtherance of His work from among others.
Calvary, I salute you for your love, your dedication, your generosity and vision. Let us continue to labor for the Lord. The community needs us and we need each other! It remains a privilege for Terri and me to serve here for this little season. “To God be the glory, great things He has done” - and stands to do, through each of willing servants.
Joy in the Lord! Dr. Kenneth Jordan
I am really having a hard time believing there are roughly three weeks until school is out for the year. What is even crazier than that is Craig will be going into high school. OH MY!!!!! With all the kidding aside, I’m sure to those who are graduating that day it cannot get here soon enough. What an EXCITING time for them. The next adventure of their life awaiting them, whether it is vocational school, college, or employment. At first glimpse, it may seem a little scary but take heart - God is still on His throne and He is still in control. You see, through all of this, God has a perfect plan for your life. During this time that you may be wondering what you are going to do, I often reflect on the scripture form Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” As you start this next adventure in your life take this summer and really focus on spending time with God and reading His word. Ask Him to give you the strength to handle the changes that will be new to you.
I would like to encourage those who will be moving forward to the next grade to apply this as well. The change(s) in teachers, a different campus, possibly sports interest, extra-curricular activities, or maybe even in new friendships that may occur. Through all of this seek Christ as your source of strength and dependence.
Summer camp is in sight. The deadline for forms and payments will be due on June 9, 2017. The dates for camp are June 26-30.

Mark’s Madness Preschool Little Bits
It’s almost summer…and almost Vacation Bible School time! So get ready for the “Galactic Starveyors”! Preschool VBS will be for children in Middle and Older Preschool classes, with childcare for younger children whose parents are teaching/working in Bible School. Announcements will be coming out soon with dates and time.
Preschool Council has a few projects to work on this summer before our new Sunday School year begins August1. We like using “Preschool Little Bits” as a way to communicate to parents and the church our plans and ideas.
One thing stirring in my heart recently is a desire to find a time for group prayer sessions with our Preschool Sunday School teachers. How wonderful it would be to have a time to pray together: for the children, for our ministry, for each other, and for an anointing of the Holy Spirit. A quote from He Is Faithful by Carol Cymbala (Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir): “You can build the best Preschool (she used the word ‘choir’ here) in the world, but unless the Holy Spirit anoints it, your teaching (or the word ‘singing’ from her book) will never have a spiritual impact.” The same principle applies to either Preschool or choir…. Aren’t we desperately hungry to see God’s hand at work in touching hearts and changing lives in families of those we teach? This is the work of the Holy Spirit.
For our summer goals, one of our former teach-ers has generously given a contribution that we plan to use for implementing some safety features and updates for our playground. Other projects being considered are a Cleaning-Party Day and a
