Fabric and Pillowcase Donations Wanted

Judy Tedeschi’s team is busy making sundresses as well as pajamas for fundraisers and for a future trip. Now one of her team members, Marian Jones is mak-ing the cutest little dresses out of pillowcases. Do you have fabric, thread or buttons in your closet for those “some day” projects? Do you have pillowcases that have a design suitable for a little sundress? Please consider donating them to us—we’ll put them to good use. If you wish to contribute any of these items, please place them in a bag, mark them

“Blanket Ministry” and leave them behind the mission counter. If you are inter-ested in helping to sew these simple dresses or pajamas, contact Judy at 818.991.0577 or email her at [email protected].

For The Troops

Jackie and Gary Truger came to our July meeting to make blankets and share letters from service men and women who received letters, cards and “We Care” gift boxes. The letters reveal how much these things are appreciated. Some of you expressed an interest in sending Christmas cards to the Troops. The guidelines are that the cards cannot be religious

but your personal message can contain blessings. Deadline for turning in Christmas cards is August 31st. Jackie also brought “For The Troop” cards for anyone who would simply like to send a message anytime of the year. Please see Linda for cards. Also, anyone wishing to donate new or used DVD’s, please bring them to the next blanket ministry meeting. The movies may be about anything except the current war. We will continue to collect donations of other needed items at our monthly blanket ministry meetings. (A list of items requested can be viewed at www.ForTheTroops.org or ask Linda for a printed list.) Jackie will bring a patriotic quilt to our August meeting. For The Troops will be selling raffle tickets for the quilt. Proceeds will be used to help pay ship-ping costs of items sent to the troops. Drawing will be on August 29th and you need not be present to win.

Happy Birthday Bree!

A donation to the blanket ministry has been received from the Kari’s to honor Bree Bailey’s birth-

day. Blessings to you Bree and thank you for all that you do for the Lord. Happy Birthday!

Appalachia Remembered

At a recent gathering of many on our Appalachia team we had time to reflect on our mission trip and all that had been accomplish and to share how we had been changed by the experience. Our thanks to World Vision for facili-tating our trip, caring for our group and being such wonderful hosts. Our thanks also to those who kept our team in prayer, to those who offered financial support, to Judy Tedeschi and her team who came along side us by making sundresses and pajamas, to those who donated fabric, buttons, thread and trim , to those who made the 1,000 blankets, and to those who donated over 600 children’s books. Thank you to our drivers who gave their time to take us to and from the airport.

There were so many contributors that I don’t even know where to begin. Our thanks to Jafra Cosmetics Interna-tional who donated an overwhelming number of personal care items and cosmetics; to the donor who covered the cost of shipping 52 moving boxes to West Virginia; to Pepperdine University, Sports Outreach, Tim Ward, and Olly Bayliss for providing sports equipment, ice chests and water coolers; to Baby Angel Threads who provided dozens of layettes for newborns and infants; to Joni & Friends for providing teen bibles and videos and books of Joni’s story to share; to Good Bears of the World for providing teddy bears to share with the many children in need we encountered; to Louise Myers who created beautiful flyers to promote our workshops; to the private donor who provided so many baby clothes and maternity clothes; to Foundation 1687 for providing prayer and praise books that we shared as well as children’s books; and to Jan Beale who knitted over 500 scarves for the children from donated yarn. I know there are many more I may have neglected to mention but know that your contributions were appreciated and used to bless many during our trip.

To say it was an amazing trip would be an understatement. It truly was a life changing trip for all who were a part of it. 37 people worked on so many projects and workshops to change many lives never realizing how our lives would also be changed by the children and families we encountered. In fact, it was such a wonderful trip that we’re thinking about doing it again next year! Blessings to all of you who were a part of it.

Ashley Nolan

It has been my privilege to know and work with Ashley Nolan who has played such an active role in Pepperdine’s Volunteer Center for the last nine years. Some of her many accomplishments have been to coordinate the numerous Project Serve and Step Forward Day activities. She has also

worked with us and sent many of our blankets out with students on mission trips. She is leaving the uni-versity to pursue her master’s degree and hopes to work with the homeless after graduation. It seemed only fitting that the blanket ministry should honor her with a blanket of hearts as a reminder of the love and many prayers that go with her.

Donations

Our ministry is self-funded and we depend on your contributions. Thank you for the many generous donations we received in July. Your gifts do make a difference—every $5 allows us to send another blanket. If you wish to make a donation, there

are two ways. On-line donations made be made at www.calvarycc.org. In the lower left hand corner click on “Online Giving”. Complete the form and type “Blanket Ministry #756” in the comments field; or write a check payable to Calvary Community Church, include “Blanket Ministry #756” on the memo line of your check. Send it to Calvary Community Church, 5495 Via Rocas, Westlake Village, CA 91362. Thank you again for your faithful support of our ministry.

What If…

What would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone? What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets? What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it? What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it? What if we gave it to kids as gifts? What if we used it when we traveled? What if we used it in case of emergency? Does this make you go...hmm...”where is my Bible”? Oh, and one more thing, Unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being discon-nected because Jesus already paid the bill. And no dropped calls! Makes you stop and ask “where are my priorities”?

Rhema Marvanne

This 7 year old girl has touching story and an amaz-ing talent. Her mother, a gospel singer, passed away two years ago, from ovarian cancer. Prior to her death she spent countless hours singing with her daughter. Take a few minutes and view her video at video.yahoo.com/watch/7960956/21085003

Fabric Squaring Night Our thanks to Veronica Anguish, Susan Eschelbach, Franne Gold-stein, Maria Hughes, Sheri Kaufman, Darlene Polidoro, Pam Rothwell, Judy Tedeschi, and Joyce Wiechert who came July 14th and succeeded in squaring all the fabric for blankets in one evening.

We have new fabric and our next fabric squaring will be Tuesday, August 10th and Thursday, August 12th in room #1108 from 5pm to 9pm. We have lots of fun and fellowship. It isn’t difficult—we’ll show you how!

Gary Wilburn The blanket ministry has received dona-tions from Jane Weilert and Rev. Karry and Dale Crites in memory of Pastor Gary Wilburn. His philosophy was to live spiritually, love inclusively, learn continu-ously and leave a legacy.

As shared by those who knew and loved him, “Gary was an incredible pastor, friend, author and mentor to hundreds of people. His teaching gifts were always special. He would cherish the thought of blankets being made and delivered to orphans in his memory.”
