IN THIS PRESENTATION WE WILL EXPLAIN THE MUSIC WE HAVE CHOSEN FOR OUR VIDEO AS WELL AS GIVE INFORMATION ON THE BAND AND WHAT WE WILL BE FILMING FOR OUR OWN MUSIC VIDEO.

The Band- The Prodigy is an English electronic dance music group from Braintree, Essex, formed by Liam Howlett in 1990.

Along with The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, The Crystal Method and other acts, The Prodigy have been credited as pioneers of the big beat genre, which achieved mainstream popularity in the 1990s and 2000s. They have sold over 25 million records worldwide. The key influence of changing the dance scene from early 90’s rave music to a darker sound, creating a pathway for genres such as gabber and industrial.

We have looked at other Prodigy songs, ‘smack my bitch up’ and ‘firestarter’. Both have dark theme which is typical of the band and the individual artists. Also both include a dark electronic sound which is present through all of their music.

The music videos themselves are raw and edgy. ‘smack my bitch up’ also includes a trippy and psychedelic theme to fit with the main video character being on drugs as well as adding to their common dark theme.

TARGET AUDIENCE The Prodigy as a whole has a large target audience. The young adult is still a big part of their audience due to the band being formed in the 90’s meaning that a lot of adults would have listened to them as kids. OUR MUSIC VIDEO In our music video we have taken the prodigy’s influences and style to be the foundations for the music video. We are aiming to create a video with a dark and psychological element.

We are using our mate as the main character in the music video and it will be fully based around what he sees and does.

Storyline-

Our storyline is based on a night in the life of our character. It is about drug use and the psychological effects. In the video we want to portrait the positive enjoyment but also show a dark and weird side many people wont have seen making our music video unique. We have been influenced also by the film ‘Donnie Darko’ and the vision and voices he has of the weird, dark rabbit figure.

1.Wakes up, looks at the time-10pm

2.Night out of drug use, drinking etc, this is portrayed as a good time

3. However the night turns into a dark and trippy night effected by the drug use. Starts tripping out, seeing things, people, masks. We aim to show footage which will effect the audience due to what is being seen.

4. After this our actor will try running from the visions etc

5. Wakes up and its 10pm again, thinks it’s a dream

6.Goes into bathroom looks at window and sees a trippy image behind him or him in a mask. This gives an open ending.

CAMERA WORK-We have chosen to use POV camera work in our music video so the audience see all that the actor is seeing and experiencing. In our video we are going to try to use a large number of different shot angles as we feel it will enhance the genre and mood we have chosen.- We will also be using other shots and conventions-- Close ups will be used to show the actors emotions and facial expressions- We are also looking to use intertextuality in our music video based on the film

‘Donnie Darko’ and the scene where he is stood in front of the mirror.- Effects- The use of effects will be prominent in our music video to portrait the

dark and psychological theme.
