A huge thank you to all of the staff that commit to dance groups throughout the year, giving up their lunch breaks and their night times to be able to ensure that our students get as many opportunities to display their creative talents as possible. BYFTSD THANK YOU every single family member that attended our 2019 Bring Your Family to School Day, which we are dubbing the best open day yet. The staff and students were amazed to see such a huge crowd around the school. It was a great opportunity for us to share how valuable public education is and to show off all the amazing things that our students do at school every day. The Back to School lessons were well attended and our open classrooms barely had enough room for people to stand. Our day was topped off with our annual fundraiser which involved lots of bright colours and lots of after school cleaning, but the huge smiles on all the students faces as they walked out the gate were definitely worth it. Oral Health Assessments Over the coming weeks all student K-6 will receive information regarding a joint initiative between NSW Health and NSW Education to provide every student in the school with a free oral health assessment and dental treatment. This is completely free for all our students and will include an oral examination, clean, x-rays, fluoride treatment, and a bag of goodies. I encourage every family to take advantage of this program and sign the consent form, when sent home, as this is over $500 worth of dental treatment free of charge. Once the consent forms are sent home, Mrs Sirmais and myself will run some extra information sessions and question and answer sessions for anyone who would like more information or support with completing all relevant paperwork. Looking forward to another big fortnight of quality learning at Cambridge Park PS. Mr Bourke Relieving Principal

and life long learners

Week 4 already and we are beginning to move towards half way through Term 3. It has been a massive fortnight with our students and families being involved in events all over the school.

Athletics Carnival Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the Athletics Carnival. The students were exceptionally well behaved on the day and did a great job of getting around to all the activities and giving their best attempt at all events. Our students times and distances have now all been submitted and we are waiting to see who has been successful in making it to the Zone carnival to be held at the end of this month.

Traditional and innovative teaching in well-managed classrooms

Kindergarten News

Thank you to all the families who were able to visit

our classrooms on Bring Your Family to School Day.

We all welcomed the opportunity to share some of

our activities with you and appreciated the time you

spent with us.

Our “Living World” unit is under way, with the

tadpoles, chickens and ducks currently growing in

our classrooms. The children are so excited to be

able to watch the growing and changing “first hand”

and no doubt will be reporting back to you every day

about the changes they are seeing!

Please encourage your child to return their home

readers each week. The readers are now able to be

swapped on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Please remember to record on the sheet which book

they have read so they don’t receive the same book

again.

Another reminder that the Wallabies will be

presenting and performing at the PBL Assembly on

Friday 23 August commencing at 2.00pm. Miss

McLoughlin would like her students to wear a

colourful top for their item. We look forward to

seeing you there.

Please label all items of clothing, it is easier for us to

return lost items if they are labelled.

Parent/Teacher interviews will be held later in the

term and a note will be sent out with the details.

Dates to remember: 21 August - Book Parade

22 August P-2 Sports Carnival. Spare notes are

available at the office if you need another copy.

Stage 1 News

Thank you to all our Stage 1 families for coming to

celebrate Bring Your Family to School Day with us.

It was a great opportunity to show just how hard our

students have been working this year. We hope you

had as fun as we did!

In science this term we are learning about ‘The

Living World’. The students are learning about the

needs and external features of living things. We will

be introducing a very interesting living thing in our

Year 1 rooms very soon so keep an eye out!

We are looking forward to another exciting and busy week next week. We can’t wait to see all the creative costumes at the book parade and to watch all of the students trying their best at the P-2 Sports Carnival.

Preschool Newsletter

The Joeys and Frogs had many families enjoy open

classrooms in the Preschool on Bring your Family to

School Day. Families participated with their children

in activities inside like painting, play dough,

threading and home corner. We then headed

outside and had fun on the equipment, bikes and

sandpit. The Joeys and Frogs then braved the cold

and windy weather to join in the colour run. It was

so much fun to get colour all over us.

Children’s portfolios have now all been sent out. If

you missed the link in your email to view them,

please see us for another invitation. There will be

two tabs at the top – moments and stories. Click on

the stories tab to see what your child has been

learning about. You can also make comments and

like each page so please feel free to do so.

Book Parade is next Wednesday 21 August at

12pm. Educators will be attending so please join us.

As it is in between morning and afternoon sessions

parents will need to stay with their children.

Anaphylaxis and Us

As mentioned in previous newsletters we have

several children and staff members at our school

who are anaphylactic. If you are sending food to

school to be shared with other children eg: birthday

cakes or cakes for sale, please be very careful to

read the ingredients and ensure that they do not

contain peanuts, tree nuts and nut products. Some

of our children are also allergic to eggs and milk.

Please also send in the packet ingredients so

that we can check them for ourselves.

Other ways to support us to keep everyone safe

are:

1. Talk to your children about allergies and how

serious they can be for some people so they

must not ever share their food with other

children. Its not mean to not share food its

keeping people safe.

2. Discuss how important it is to wash hands

before and after eating so that food allergens

don’t get transferred onto other people or their

food.

Thank you for working with us to keep our children

safe.

Important information for

parents and students

The Department recognises that some families will

be subject to family breakdown. In the absence of

any notification to the contrary, it will be assumed

that both parents retain a shared and equal parental

responsibility for their children and have been

involved in making any decisions regarding their

children’s education.

This means that the school will recognise that each

parent has equal duties, obligations responsibilities

and opportunities in relation to matters involving the

school.

If any changes occur in your family relationships

which have the potential to impact on the

relationship between the school and your family,

you are required to advise the school immediately.

This includes providing copies of any court orders

that may be obtained.

Support Unit News This week we started a program called ‘Birds In Schools’ which aims to engage students in the scientific process through investigating and monitoring the birds and habitat of our school grounds. The ultimate aim is developing and implementing an action plan related to improving its biodiversity. This program is sponsored by Birdlife Australia and includes a incursions and an excursion to Penrith Lakes. The students are engaged and have already conducted their initial bird survey within the school grounds. Tom Covell is the project officer and you can find more information at http://birdlife.org.au/projects/urban-birds/birds-in-schools-project

Community News

Colour Run Thank you to everyone for supporting our Colour Run event. With your support our school was able to raise approximately $8000.00 profit. All cash sponsorship collected for the Colour Run is now due. Please bring this money to the office so prize ordering can commence next week.

New Shade Area With thanks to previous years fundraising our new shade shelter for the back playground is on its way. Over the coming weeks work should begin on the new structure.

Changing School Uniform Supplier We have been exploring alternate suppliers for our school uniform in response to the feedback we received from our community in regards to our current uniform supplier . After consultation within our community it was agreed that our school would move from the current supplier to a new supplier. Our new supplier is Back to Basics Schoolwear. Please note our uniform is NOT changing at all, we are just changing suppliers. Back to Basics Schoolwear are located at 52 Cox Ave Kingswood. They offer layby and online ordering with free delivery to the school every Tuesday. The official change over date is Thursday 29 August 2019.

Father's Day Stall Our Father's Day stall will be held on Wednesday 28 August 2019. Gifts will range from $1.00 - $10.00. Students attending the Zone Athletics Carnival will be able to purchase an item on Tuesday 27 August between 2pm - 3pm.

Make N Move Outdoor Playgroup Tuesdays and Fridays 9am -10:30am Why not come and join us! We are down next to the preschool. Please bring a hat, a bottle of water and a piece of fruit to share for morning tea. Playgroup is free for all to attend but please put children in old clothes as we can get very messy. Hope to see you there! Parking, entry and exit is available at the back of the school. Mrs Sirmais Community Partnership Officer
