If you wish to apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship, please describe below in not more than 500 words how your interests and achievements, both academic and extra-curricular, demonstrate a capacity for leadership and a commitment to improving the lives of others. Please also set out why you think there is a good fit between your professional aspirations and the graduate programme at Cambridge for which you are applying. Personal statement for Gates Cambridge Scholarships
Scholarships offered by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the Cambridge Overseas Trust (except Cambridge International Scholarships, which are considered on academic merit only) are normally dependent on demonstrated financial need and academic ability and potential. Please explain in not more than 500 words why you believe you should be considered for a scholarship. When completing this section, please indicate which scholarships you wish to be considered for and explain how you meet any specific requirements listed on the Trusts website (www.cambridgetrusts.org). Please also note that some scholarships require you, in addition, to make separate applications. Full details are on the Trusts website. Applicants who are not successful in winning a Gates, or other substantial, scholarship will be considered for a means-tested part-cost award by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust or Cambridge Overseas Trust. The value of the award will be determined in the light of the financial circumstances of the applicant. These Trusts will take into account not only the financial contributions from family, personal funds and loans, but also other scholarships and grants for which the candidate has applied. Candidates are urged to apply to other sources which might contribute, wholly or partially, to the funding of their studies at Cambridge. It is therefore essential that the questions below be completed as fully, and as accurately, as possible, if you wish to be considered for a part-cost award from the Trusts.
