Camden Learning Schools Newsletter Dear Colleagues, Welcome to issue twelve of the latest Camden Learning Schools newsletter, the rst one in this academic year. We hope you all had a wonderful summer break. The aim of sending this newsletter, is so that we can keep you up to date on Camden Learning developments, school specic issues, competitions and upcoming conferences. It is a digest of operational and professional matters and school management issues of relevance to Camden schools. If you have any suggestions for items and issues you would like to see included for the next schools newsletter, please email: [email protected] If you have any queries regarding any Camden Schools news items, please do not hesitate to contact us. Camden Learning Training Support From the start of September 2017, Camden Learning and the newly formed Learning & Development Service (previously the Training & Development Service) have changed the way we work. The Business Operations team within Camden Learning will now manage the full training oer provided for 2016-17. The majority of the sessions will continue to be taking place at the Crowndale Centre, where you can still rely on the excellent support of the Learning & Development Service team, but there will be a continued dierentiation in the separate teams responsibilities. Changes to Camden PrintArrangementsAs part of the Smarter Working programme, Camden havecollaborated with Ricoh Ltd to modernise our printingprocesses. What will change?

Payslips will no longer be printed in the Camden print roomFrom October 2017, payslips for school sta� will be printed by Ricoh LtdPayslips will be posted via Royal Mail directly to the appropriate schoolPayslips will arrive more promptly – directly after printingCamden’s print room and mail room will not have information about the payslips.Please do not contact them.

SATs for seven-year-oldsscrapped from 2023Controversial tests taken by England's seven-year-olds willbe scrapped by 2023, but nine-year-olds will have to sit timestable tests under new plans.

Announcing the end to compulsory SATs, the government said children would insteadhave a "baseline" check in reception year, aged four or �ve. Independent Inquiry intoChild Sexual AbuseThe Department of Education has asked all Directors ofChildren Services to write to all schools in their area, toremind you that the statutory Independent Inquiry into ChildSexual Abuse (IICSA), which was established on 12 March2015 to investigate whether public bodies and other non-state institutions have takenseriously their duty of care to protect children from sexual abuse, requires schools toretain all records until further notice, and this is an ongoing responsibility. Under the Inquiries Act 2005, schools are required to retain all information that may berelevant to IICSA and must not dispose of any information until further guidance isreceived. The Borough Solicitor has advised in order to demonstrate compliance that noinformation should be destroyed. Please could you ensure that all personnel and pupils �les, both paper and digital, areretained so that if the Inquiry later identi�es evidence that in their view is relevant, youare able to produce it. All schools must retain all documents; correspondence; notes;emails and all other information, in whatever form, until further notice from the Inquiry. Children and familiescontact serviceThe Children and Families Contact Service is the ‘front door’to all children’s social care services in Camden. The servicewill accept all referrals and requests for services for childrenliving in Camden, whether they need an early help service ora social work service. This way, we can make sure thatchildren and families get the right sort of help from the start. The service is comprised of screening o�cers, social workers and early help workers ledby a social work manager and an Early Help manager and includes the First Stop EarlyHelp team, which deals with referrals for early help, preventative services where problems

are �rst emerging and the Multi-agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) team, which deals withreferrals where there are concerns that the child is at risk of harm and requires astatutory social work service from Children’s Safeguarding and Social Care (CSSW). New homes to rent inCamdenCamden Council and housing associations across Camdenare building new homes for working people who struggle toa�ord to rent or buy in the borough. If you earn over £20,000, live in Camden or have worked in the borough for at least sixmonths, you could be eligible to rent one of the new homes which will be o�ered at belowmarket rent. Flat sharing with friends is also an option – subject to eligibility. Just over 50 homes will be available next month through Camden Living, Camden’s newhousing company, as well as a limited amount of homes through other housingassociations.
