Re: Source Materials License SUA-1534Docket No. 40-8943IJ 13P Monitor Well Excursion
Dear Deputy Director:
On October 4, 2011, during routine biweekly water sampling of Cameco Resources, Crow ButteOperation (CBO) commercial monitor well IJ13P, the single control limit (SCL) for alkalinity wasexceeded. As required by License Condition 11.2 of Source Materials License SUA-1534, a secondsample was collected from U13P within 48 hours and analyzed for the three excursion indicatorparameters. The results of the second sample also exceeded the single control limit for alkalinity.
In accordance with License Condition 11.2, CBO increased the sampling frequency for IJ13P toweekly. Weekly samples were obtained from October 5, 2011, through February 21, 2012. Thesamples collected on January 17, 24, 31, and February 7, 14, and 21, 2012, were below the excursioncriteria from Section B. 1 of the permit. Based on these results, CBO is removing IJ13P fromexcursion status and is returning it to routine biweekly sampling. Attached are copies of the analyticaldata for each of the last six weekly samples. Also attached, please find graphs depicting alkalinity, conductivity, and chloride results from October 11, 2011, through February 21, 2012.
