GENERAL INFORMATION

Arrival and Campsite Assignment: Upon arrival at camp, the Scoutmaster and SPL will be welcomedat check in. Unit's completed on-line registration form confirmation, roster of attendees, medical forms,permission slips for medical treatment, and talent/photo release form, as well as, a copy of your Unit'sTour Permit.At this time a campsite will be assigned.

Awards:1. Camporee Patch for all participants.2. Ribbons for top three places in events3. Best campsite. (see Campsite Inspection)4. Scout Spirit Award (see Scout Spirit Award)5. Gateway Contest (see Campsite Inspection)6. Scoutmaster Awards - random drawing for donated items

Campfire Program: Entertainment will be provided by Staff and participating units. Please notifyHeadquarters staff that you would like to be considered for performing.

Campsite Inspections: Look at the Camp Inspection sheet carefully as this is how you will be judged.Troops are requested to erect a campsite gateway. These gateways will designate unit and campsitenumber. Ifyou have any questions please call your camping chairman.There is a Gateway Contest. Use of flags must be in proper location.

Campsite Setup: Only one (1) vehicle will be permitted into the camp site area per unit. All others mustpark in the parking lot. Any other equipment the Scouts walk in. Due to the dust and other Scouts in thearea, a 5 mph speed limit is set. Only exception is F1RST AID EMERGENCIES No individuals mayride in bed of trucks or in trailers per BSA policyNo vehicles will be allowed to remain in campsite areas. Roads must remain clear. Each unit is responsible toprovide tents and food for their unit. Each unit will be responsible for their unit's food, drink, and cooking.

Checkout Instructions: Each unit campsite must be inspected by the Camporee Staff before departing.Upon getting an inspection approval, come by the Headquarters' to pick up your unit's patches and forms.

First Aid: First Aid will be available at the First Aid station. Serious injuries or health problems shouldbe immediately reported.

Fires and firewood: Wood will not be provided so bring your own for site campfires. Remember theBSA requirements for designated campfire area has to be elevated. If there is a no-burn alert, it will beobserved. NO EXCEPTIONS Fires must be above ground!

Flag Ceremony: Saturday morning and evening: Need to have two Troops to do the ceremony.

Latrines: Latrines will be provided. Please be courteous and leave it clean for the next person.

Order of Arrow:1. Trading Post: water, soda and candy. Dispose of trash properly2. Escort Scouts to campfire.3. Opening ceremony at the Campfire.

Parking: Follow signs No on-site parking of Cars, Vans, Trailers or other motorized modes oftransportation. Only exception is for First Aid Station, Camp Staff Cook, Chairman, Co-Chairmen, andTrading Post.

Registration: Registration will only be available on line.(http://www.grandcanyonbsa.orglregistrationlcalendardetail.asp? ActivityKey= 1191755). If you prefernot to pay online you have the option of printing an invoice and paying at the council office. We are notable to refund any fees, but you may substitute attendees. The Camporee registration fee is $15.00 perindividual (Scout or adult. Fees cover camp cost, patches, ribbons, awards, as well as cracker barrel and othernecessary expenses. Online registration closes midnight, AprilS, 2013.

Scout Spirit Award: All Staff members will pay special attention to all Troops and their Scout Spirit.This will include not only their time doing the patrol competitions, but throughout Friday and Saturday.In addition, to receive the award your unit must perform a song, skit or lead a cheer at the campfireSaturday evening.

Trash Disposal: There is no dumpster so each unit must take all of their trash with them when they leave.

Tour Permits: Tour Permits are required for each unit attending Camporee. Permits are due into CouncilOffice by Friday, April 5th (two weeks ahead). Turn in the tour permit at the check-in point for the camp.Tour permits will be returned to the unit during the checkout process.

Uniforms: Class A uniforms are required to be worn for flag raising, flag lowering and campfire.

EVENTS OF SPECIAL INTEREST

Cracker Barrel and Leaders Meeting: Friday, April 19th at 9:00 PM. Scoutmasters, SeniorPatrol Leaders, Camporee Staff and Event Sponsors must attend this meeting. Last minutechanges, questions, locations of events and final details will be discussed.

Opening Ceremony Flag Display: Saturday, April 20th at 8:00 AM. Each Unit is requested tobring their Unit Flag to the Opening Ceremony. Class A uniform is required for openingceremony.

Campsite Inspections: Saturday, April 20th, between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM. Inspectors willbe on hand to visit unit campsites. Campsites will be inspected according to BSA policy, generalcleanliness and the use of the patrol method in site arrangement, cooking, etc. See Campsiteinspection form for details.

Campfire Award Ceremony: Saturday, April 20th, at 6:45 PM all units gather for campfire atwhich Camporee Event Awards and Campsite Inspection Awards are given. AU 0/A membersare asked to wear their OA sash. Family members attending campfire should be with their unit.

Religious Service: Worship services Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. everyone isencouraged to attend these services. There will be no check-outs or departures during theservice.

Storyteller: Doug Coleman of the Mogollon Monster story fame will be a guest of theCamporee to tell the story of the Lost Dutchman's Mine.

CAMPOREE EVENTS DESCRIPTION

Scouts will compete, as patrols, in a variety of events to test their scouting and teamwork skills andjust have fun. Here is a sample of what we will be offering. Winners will be awarded from thefollowing groupings: Webelos, Troops, High adventure patrols and varsity/venture units.

Scavanger Hunt A listing of items around the area which can be found. The patrol finding the mostitems will be the winners.

Micro Trails Patrols set-up a nature trail on small scale.

Rescue Rope n Patrols rescue an "endangered victim".

Fahrenheit 212 The patrol will light a fire and boil a pint of water as quickly as possible.

Log Disassembly Each participant cuts through a small log.

Conserve and Observe The activity increases and improves Scouts' awareness of the environmentand their observation skills.

Knot and Lash Scouts will demonstrate tying basic Scout knots and lashes.

Weight Pull Scouts are to raise and lower a weight as often as possible in a given time using a ropeand pulley.

Peralta Trail Hike This hike is only for High Adventure patrols or Units. There must be ascoutmaster sign-off of the scout having had a Desert Survival Class and be included on a secondTour permit for the hike away from Don's Base Camp. There will be ajudge before units leave torate how well prepared for an April hike in the desert.

Nature Hike This hike is a pre-set nature hike handled by the Forest Service. This is for all scoutsto hike and have a better chance to win the Scavenger Hunt.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

Service Projects We hope to have service projects for groups to complete after lunch. Thesewill last no more than one to two hours. Don's Club members may be present to help with theservice projects. They are proud of their Base Camp and want to be sure projects are completedto their specifications.

These awards will be drawn as "door prizes" at the Saturday campfire for some lucky Scouters.These are for Adult Scouters. The names of each adult registered for the Camporee will be enteredinto the drawing.
