Australia’s Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is a city coming of age. It is a place of
opportunity that, over the next decade, will transform
into a globally recognised city while retaining its
enviable lifestyle and stunning natural environment.
Welcoming a growing number of sports teams each
year, the Gold Coast is one of Australia’s premier sport
destinations. The Gold Coast offers a combination of
high quality training and playing facilities; cutting edge
research and expertise in sports science; and
an innovative sport industry.
Strategically located on the edge of the Asia-Pacific
rim, with access to two international airports, the Gold
Coast is perfectly positioned as a destination for sport.
Stretching along 57 kilometres of coastline
and bordered by vast, sub-tropical rainforests,
the Gold Coast offers one of Australia’s best
training environments.
As one of Australia’s favourite tourism destinations,
there is also an abundance of entertainment options
and accommodation providers that specialise in
catering to large sporting teams.
There are a growing number of international
champions coming out of the Gold Coast, including:
Olympic hurdles gold medallist, Sally Pearson; world
surfing champions, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson
and Stephanie Gilmore; world sailor of the year, Mat
Belcher; US Masters golf champion, Adam Scott; US
Open tennis champion, Sam Stosur; and professional
men’s tennis player, Bernard Tomic.
Each year the Gold Coast welcomes more champions
to the city when it plays host to major sporting
events including the Gold Coast Marathon, Quiksilver
and Roxy Pro professional world surfing events,
Magic Millions Horseracing Carnival and PGA
Championships to name a few.

My career highlights include winning a gold medal
at the World Youth Games in 2003, a silver medal
at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, becoming world
champion (100m hurdles) at the 2011 World Athletics
Championships in South Korea and achieving the
ultimate goal of winning a gold medal at the London
Olympic Games in 2012.
I attribute part of my success to the training and
coaching I have received on the Gold Coast. The
warm climate, the beaches and hundreds of parks,
as well as top quality local sports facilities, provide a
perfect training environment.
As a Gold Coast athlete competing internationally,
I am thrilled about the Gold Coast 2018
Commonwealth Games and believe they will be a
major driver for sports development in the city.
The city offers easy access via Gold Coast and
Brisbane international airports.
We are a world famous holiday destination, with a
variety of available sports specific accommodation
venues and plenty of activities to add to training
camp programs.
I think the Gold Coast is the perfect choice for high
performance sports training camps – but don’t just
take my word for it, come and see for yourself.
