Andrew Engen – Camp Lincoln CamperI come back each year because the atmosphere is awesome and this will be my 4thyear at Camp Lincoln! The friends you make at camp are friends forever. At campI learned how to wind surf, sail, shoot archery & riflery, and last summer I workedon conquering my fear of heights on the ropes course with the help of the staff.At home I use my camp skills to play Ultimate Frisbee with my friends and to goMountain Biking. My favorite camp meal is “squirty” chicken (Chicken Kiev) and“Hot Pockets” are my favorite snack. Last summer I took a canoe trip for 20 milesdown the Mississippi River. This summer I am excited to see my old friends, fromprevious years, and to meet new friends. I am also looking forward to learning newskills, and just having FUN!

How will I arrive at camp? If you are flying, your parents will see you off on theplane and then at the Minneapolis Airport, one ofour staff wearing a Camp Lincoln & Camp LakeHubert Shirt and usually holding a Camp Sign willmeet you when you get off the plane. Our staff willstay with you and help you get to our charteredbuses for a short trip (about 2 1/2 hours) to camp.

If you are coming by bus from the Twin Cities Area,you will board the bus at Concord School in Edinaand then head up to camp (about a 2 ? hour drive).

Once you arrive at camp, you will meet your cabinstaff, call your parents to let them know you havearrived, get settled in your cabin and meet the othercampers in your cabin.

If your parents are bringing you, you will arrivebetween 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. After you check in,you will meet your staff and get settled into yourcabin while meeting the other campers in yourcabin. You are welcome to walk around camp withyour parents so they can see all the great things youwill be doing.

How do my family and friends keepin touch with me?They can send letters or postcards. Please do not for-get to bring stationary and postcards of your own towrite to them, too. Your parents can also fax or emailyou and you will receive all of their correspondenceto you via the mail each day, except Sunday, while atcamp. Please tell everyone to address all mail to:Your name, c/o Camp Lincoln or Camp LakeHubert, PO Box 1308, Lake Hubert, MN 56459.

Please remember that we encourage mail but dis-courage packages. Your parents have a referencebooklet that outlines all of this, so check with themif you have any questions. Should you forget anyitems on our suggested list, your parents are alwayswelcome to send them to you.

Anthony McGuinness – Camp Lincoln StaffAnthony is returning for his 6th year on staff because of the rewarding opportunity that comesfrom being a counselor, mentor and friend to our campers, and making a difference in their lives.Just like the campers he has worked with, he too has grown and developed his own skills. Anthonyhas gained valuable experience in public speaking (originally he was too scared to speak in public)as well as fire building, sailing, and loon jumping to mention a few. One of his best memoriesoccurred a couple years back when he shared in their excitement and accomplishment as TheGopher Cabin campers learned the Camp Lincoln Creed, and then recited it in front of the wholedivision! At home in England, he works for an organization to help other International Staff getjobs in American camps each summer. He looks forward to seeing not only the returning campers,but the new campers as well. He also hopes to grill some delicious hamburgers during the PrepCamp cookouts.

Our baseball diamond is the best!Trap shooting is another great shooting sport. At wilderness, there’s fire building, outdoorcooking and so much s’more!

Another trip option is to take a canoetrip near the Canadian border.

2008 What’s new to look for at Camp LincolnAn expanded and advanced Disc GolfCourse. Where will the new targets belocated?

More than 20 Mountain Bikes includingsome of even a smaller size, so now allcampers will have the right bike size forriding.

Last year our athletic field was green allsummer thanks to the addition of a sprin-kling system. Watch for the new sprinklersnow covering the entire field for 2008.

Intermediate Camp will have a new basket-ball backstop.

Soccer will have more practice goals socampers working on improving their skillswill have more facility than ever.

All the sports areas will have expandedequipment so our sports program and theareas you like the best will be even moreavailable.

Archery now has all of the old backstopsreplaced with new ones like the ones we hadlast summer. It looks great and will helpfacilitate skill development even more.

The Fred, Chuck and Brownie Awards andWall of Honor for four week campers willbe up in the Intermediate Dining and rec-ognizes one camper who exhibits the best inSportsmanship, one camper who best exem-plifies living the Camp Lincoln Creed and athird person each session who walks the talkof exemplifying our camp values.

The new campfire area in Prep Camp nowhas been completed and outlined with agreat new fence so we can have even morefun when we get together for singing, shar-ing, stories and being together at campfires.

The low ropes course has two new events foreven more fun and learning this summer.

Apache Cabin has been remodeled with anew bathroom area, new roof and a freshcoat of paint all around.

Our two new tetherball courts inIntermediate Camp have been repaired andare ready for play.

All the dining room floors were sanded andrecoated with a shiny new finish for a greatlook.

2008 Special Days

The junior campfire area has a new fence toadd to the beauty of this new area.

A new water mat will be at the waterfrontfor lots of additional fun.

Stacking cup table units like the modelby Senior Lodge from last summer will beall over camp.

After our trial last summer there will bewoman’s Lacrosse equipment for plenty ofpractice and play. Remember to sign upfor this new sport.

There will some new and smaller bikesfor Mountain Biking making a total of 20bikes for each activity period.

Nutcracker Cabin has been remodeled(like most of the cabins in camp) withexpanded chalets, a back deck, and a newbathroom.

A new craft building to replace the oldjunior craft building has been built nearthe Drama building and Junior Showerbuilding. Skylights and lots of windowswill make for a cool environment.

Both dining rooms in Senior Lodge willnow have new tables with lighter woodtops that makes the dining room environ-ment even more pleasant for meals.

We will have more theme meals this sum-mer in all of our dining rooms. All of thedining room floors have been sanded andre-finished for a terrific new look.

Archery now has all of the old backstopsreplaced with new larger backstops tomake arrow recovery even easier and helpguide the arrow to the targets.

There is a brand new trail down the hillbehind the Health Center to Bass Lake tomake changing areas of camp even easier.

Our fleet has a new MC16 to add evenmore excitement for sailing.

Our Drama shed has a ton of new outfitsand costumes for skits, plays and per-formances during the summer.

The GA-GA court has been modified soit is not quite so big and should make foreven more spirited play. It will also be ina brand new location, look for it whenyou get to camp.

The Volleyball Court and Basketball areahas been recoated for even nicer play.

Our Chapel has been cleaned up and thebenches recoated to make the environ-ment even nicer. One of our formercampers will be married at the chapel thissummer.

Dakota Curran – Camp Lake Hubert CamperI come back each year just to be with friends, having a good time and laughingabout the stupidest things. I am very proud that I received my Core Value award forQuality Relationships at camp in 2007. Trap shooting, riflery, friendship bracelets,and gymnastics are some of my favorite activities. One of my favorite camp memo-ries was at the climbing wall. I was halfway to the top and wanted to come down,but I faced my fears and made it to the top. Then last year I even went on the climb-ing trip and it was awesome! My favorite camp meal is chicken patties and myfavorite snack is anything cold, especially twin pops or fudge-pops. My favorite divi-sion activity is red nose blue nose. Each summer I look forward to making newfriends, campfires and camp songs.

Who will be in my cabin?You will be with campers who have just completedabout the same grade as you have and who comefrom areas all over this country or the world, so youcan start to make a group of new friends right away.

There are also 4 or 5 of our great staff who live rightin the cabin with you and they are there to makesure you feel safe and to help you have a really funand great time while at camp.

Campers attending for four weeks will be in differ-ent cabins from campers coming for two weeks.

How do I choose my activities?Once you get to camp, your staff will help youchoose and sign up for activities (up to 4 each day)which are repeated for three days in a row. Then, youwill have another chance to sign up for the sameactivities or a whole new set of activities for the nextthree days. It is a great system that allows you to trythings and then change your mind after three days.This way, you will be able to add lots of variety toyour time at camp. Think about what you mightwant to sign up for on the first day.

ONE PERSON can make allthe difference in the world.Help us save nature’s resources at camp:• Turn off lights when leaving the cabin.• Turn off water while brushing your teeth.• Take shorter showers.• Tell your staff about noisy, leaky faucets, showers

and toilets• Turn in extra supplies so they can be reissued.• Help us with recycling in the dining room and

Kevyn Stokes – Camp Lake Hubert Staff Kevyn was a camper for 3 years and will be back for her 2nd year on staff. She remembers final camp-fires and realizing how much you’ve come to care about each other. Her favorite song is “The BananaSong” because she likes to be able to say “GO BANANAS”. One of her favorite memories, as acamper, was having a dance party during caper time and how much fun it was to be with her cabinmates. At school she continues to live all the important values of camp and is involved in an organi-zation in Spokane, WA, that works to provide positive role models and a safe and encouraging placefor kids to grow up (just like camp). Her favorite three meals are chicken nuggets and tater tots, tacobar and chicken patties. She is excited about being active in Mountain Biking and Sailing again thiscoming summer. Kevyn looks forward to reuniting with everyone, new and former campers and staffand having another great summer of challenges at Camp Lake Hubert in 2008.
