2016 Revitalization
Campaign
The idea of the reconstruction of a Shakesperean Theatre in Odessa originated in 1948 in Mrs. Marjorie Morris’ senior English class at Odessa High School as a project of the OHS Shakespeare Club. In the 1960s, the vision of then Odessa College professor Marjorie Morris came to fruition in the construction of the Globe Theatre.
In 2015 Odessa College and the Globe of the Great Southwest, a local non-profit production and performance group, reached an agreement ceding sole responsibility for maintenance and operation of the Globe Theatre facility to Odessa College.
For 50 years, the Globe Theatre has hosted community theatre, musical and other performance activities. With the re-establishment of the OC Theatre Performance Program, it also functions as one of the best classrooms on campus – but it is now in need of upgrades and improvements.
