“QUALITY IS NEVER AN ACCIDENT; IT IS ALWAYS THE RESULT OF HIGH
INTENTION, SINCERE EFFORT, INTELLIGENT DIRECTION AND
SKILLFUL EXECUTION; IT REPRESENTS THE WISE CHOICE OF
MANY ALTERNATIVES.” !W I L L I A M A . F O S T E R
By coming to your camp and walking around, observing, and talking to campers and staff, we’re able identify the areas of camp most l ike ly to encourage transformation and community building. When we’ve talked to camp alumni and parents, it is always the transformation they see in their children that motivates their referrals and retention.
ASSESS
Our team spends 48 hours at your camp while it’s in session. 01
There will be a lot of information gathered over our 48 hours at camp. There will be notes taken, photos shot and videos captured. These will become the foundation to the written report that will be delivered in the Fall. It’s important to us that we also spend some time with you at the end of our visit to get a chance to talk through and ask questions about the things we saw at your camp.
COMMUNICATE
We deliver a written report of what we discover during our assessment.02
Getting an outsider’s perspective on how camp runs (especially from directors with over 30 years experience) will be exciting and maybe even a little nerve-wracking. By making time to go over the report and then laying out the steps for the changes in the recommendations, we’ll make sure that you have a clear process to implement your own transformation as a camp.
TRANSFORM
During delivery of the report, we work on a plan with you to make the changes that best fit your camp.

A.C.T. PHASES
4 S’s4 S’s4 S’sSERVANTHOODSTEWARDSHIPSELF ESTEEM
Is this activity SAFE for all involved (physically, emotionally, mentally and even spiritually)?
Does this program area/activity build (not tear down) every person’s SELF-ESTEEM?
Are we being good STEWARDS of the environment? Are we teaching kids to appreciate nature?
In all we do, are we being a SERVANT to others? Learning to understand the needs of others is an essential leadership skill.
SAFETY
The one clear factor that changed our camp’s direction for the better was the implementation of the 4 S Test.
This tool allows us to look at every aspect of a camp and evaluate the factors that build community and transform the lives of campers & staff.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?We will spend our days examining all aspects of camp: the site, the accommodations, how meals run, how campers are treated by the staff, etc. !For example, if we visit a program area, we will look at things such as: - are the rules clearly
posted and explained? - are there children
who are bored and unnoticed by staff?
- are all the staff fully engaged in the activity?
- is the area clean and welcoming?
- are lessons presented to the campers in a creative way?
- are staff demonstrating care for the structures and equipment?
- are there advanced skills available for campers who have mastered the basics?
A.C.T is NOT…
This is not an accreditation visit and it’s not a health inspection. With A.C.T. we are looking to help camps improve the product that they offer and to have a greater impact on the lives of staff, families and campers. !Ultimately, our goal is to help you achieve greater retention and word-of-mouth marketing.
