With more than 40,000 students enrolled in more than 400 programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, the University of Ottawa turned to ITC Systems to bring order to its tangled and unwieldy campus card system. The University of Ottawa
Established in 1848, the University
of Ottawa is located in Canada's
capital city of Ottawa, and situated
within walking distance of the
Parliament Buildings.
Bilingual Academics
The world's first university to offer
a French Immersion
undergraduate program, the
University of Ottawa is now the
largest bilingual (English-French)
university in the world.
The Need for Order
With more than 40,000 students
enrolled in more than 400
programs at the undergraduate
and graduate levels, the university
turned to ITC Systems to bring
order to its tangled and unwieldy
campus card system.

What Was Involved?
A consolidated campus card system was
needed for:
- snack and beverage vending
- bookstore purchases
- dining purchases
- laundry charges
- printing and copying
- library services
- other e-commerce transactions
How Does It Work?
The Web Purchase system from ITC Systems
allows students and parents to use a web
interface to:
- add value to accounts
- buy meal plans
- check balances
- view transactions
- cancel a lost card
...all online!
Security and Peace of Mind
Parents can rest easy knowing that
funds can be transferred to student
accounts by Interac or credit card,
and that the system places
restrictions on what students can
purchase – no alcohol, cigarettes,
lottery tickets, or gift cards.
The Express Line
The university provides express lines
in places such as the bookstore so
that students wishing to pay with
their campus card don't have to wait.
This policy has benefitted the
university, too –sales using the
onecard have quadrupled since the
program's implementation.
A Creative Partnership
Educational institutions like the
University of Ottawa are under
pressure to continually and cost-
effectively upgrade the student
experience. The university's
partnership with ITC Systems was a
creative and collaborative one with
superb results.
