Kumarans, as an institution has
always tried to promote reading
habits in children and inculcate in
them the love of books. As a part of
this ongoing effort, Mrs.
JanakiMurali was invited on 8th of
November to launch her book
“GuluNami and the Power of the
Triads”, a fantasy novel for young
adults.
The session began with a quiz on
western popular fantasy followed by
a presentation on how western
popular culture has been depicted
down the ages. A character from her
book then came alive and interacted
with members of the audience. A
dramatized reading of the book
drew tremendous appreciation from
the excited children and the session
concluded with some of them asking
the author about her forthcoming
books in the series.
Overall it was a successful program
with students enjoying a lot of
exposure to contemporary literature.
Book Launch
Mrs. Murali has published short stories in various magazines. She has authored a novel called “The Colour of Dawn” and an adventure series for children called “Tender Tales.”
“In a world where the written
word competes with so many
other calls on our attention,
we need more literacy heroes
to keep inspiring young people
to find the pleasure and power
of reading for themselves.”
“For one who reads, there is no limit to the number of lives that may be lived, for fiction, biography, and history offers an inexhaustible number of lives in many parts of the world, in all periods of time.” ― Louis L'Amour

Goa Trip
GO GOA
A getaway with friends and teachers was something we all looked forward to. We arrived in Goa on 7th December. Following a sumptuous lunch and a much-needed rest, we set off for Calangute Beach, a mere ten-minute bus ride from our resort.
Christened as ‘the Queen of Goa’s beaches’, Calangute certainly lived up to its name and proved to be the perfect spot to unwind. An evening free for shopping and a DJ night followed this at the resort where we all lost ourselves to dance.
Our next day began early at 8:30 in the morning as we left for sightseeing, our first stop being Fort Aguada. Next on the places to see were the Sinquerim Beach and to the Naval History Museum, where we learnt fascinating pieces of India’s Naval History and saw many models and components of naval machinery. The highlight of the evening, however, was the sundown cruise which brought to us a brilliant medley of Goa’s quaint traditions through its folk dances and its modern day pop culture with the latest songs and music.
On the third day, we concluded our beach hopping with a last visit to Calangute, after which we checked
out of the resort and headed to the 400 year old Mangueshi Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Lastly, we visited the Basilica of Bom Jesus, a National Heritage site built in neo classical style which housed the body of St Francis Xavier a missionary who made Christianity popular in Goa.
We also visited the StAugestine Cathedral, another old church before departing for the railway station to catch the train to Bangalore.
The trip was memorable,
enrapturing and joyous.
