Applications for HD over an IP Network
• High quality CCTV surveillance• Door entry video cameras• Streaming video-entertainment• High quality virtual/remote desktop• Hospital MRI CT over IP• Production and process monitoring• Corporate web sites

Raw Video Data Rates
M Bits/second
![Page 4: Can HD video run over one converged network](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052400/559a5c661a28abc41d8b4594/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Video Codecs
• H264 Codec PAL NTSC= 1-2MBits/s (CCTV Quality)
• H264 Codec HD 1080P30 = 2-8 Mbits/s (CCTV Quality)
• Lower data rates can be achieved using reduced frame rates, resolutions, codec tools and other bandwidth efficiency
techniques

H264 Video Codecs
I, P and B frames
• I Frames - Intra Codec (Reference) Frame• P Frames - Predictive (Difference) Frame • B Frames - Bi-Predictive (Pre and Post) • GOP - Group of Pictures
The Basics of Compression
![Page 6: Can HD video run over one converged network](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052400/559a5c661a28abc41d8b4594/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)

TargetDataRate
Video Data over IP‘H264 data is not smooth and linear’
I frame data typically occupies 40mS-1 frameP frame data varies from 0 to infinity
(typically 2-10 seconds, 50-250 frames)
![Page 7: Can HD video run over one converged network](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052400/559a5c661a28abc41d8b4594/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Methods to manage video data rates
• CBR - Constant Bit rate• VBR - Variable Bit Rate• Frame rate• Resolution• Choice of Codec/compression
CBR = Constant Bit Rate = Average bit rate over timeI frame spikes of data rates above CBR rate.
VBR = Variable Bit rate = less controlled average, P & B frames allowed to vary in data size depending on motion to give better quality

Data Rates- Examples
• Full HD Video fast action full frame rate
- 4-8 Mbits/sec
• SXGA virtual desktop over IP @ 60Hz
- 2-4 Mbits/sec
• Full HD 1080P video with 5 fps VBR Normal
- 800kBits/s to 1.5MBits/sec
• Full HD 1080P video 5 fps CBR=1MBit/sec
- 500kBits/sec -1MBits/sec
![Page 9: Can HD video run over one converged network](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052400/559a5c661a28abc41d8b4594/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
DEMO Showing quality versus data rate
![Page 10: Can HD video run over one converged network](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052400/559a5c661a28abc41d8b4594/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Network Management
• Recording or just viewing
• Triggered recording rather than continuous
• Local storage of video rather than centralised
• Simulcast (Pull) V Multicasting (Push/Pull)
• Frame rates - choose based on subject type
• Audio - one or two way
• Numbers of people viewing video streams
Issues that affect network bandwidth
![Page 11: Can HD video run over one converged network](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052400/559a5c661a28abc41d8b4594/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Multicast for large numbers of viewers
Regardless of number of viewersserver sends only one stream
![Page 12: Can HD video run over one converged network](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052400/559a5c661a28abc41d8b4594/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Network Management 2
• Recording high quality stream
• Viewing lower quality secondary stream
• Video storage kept on independent network for CCTV/Video
• Video viewing over general network
• Large numbers of viewers consider multicasting
Main H264 Stream
Secondary stream

Dual Streaming

Video Management Software- VMS
• VMS can simultaneously control all IP cameras and servers
• Ability to ‘Propagate to All’ feature to set video data rates on ALL IP cameras/servers
![Page 14: Can HD video run over one converged network](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052400/559a5c661a28abc41d8b4594/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
PC Performance for viewing H264 HD Video
• EXAMPLE
• 3 x Full HD 1080P30 streams
• Decoded by one PC
• Requires a good Quad Core Motherboard
• Requires high end graphics card
• Requires 500-1000MBytes of Graphics RAM
![Page 15: Can HD video run over one converged network](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052400/559a5c661a28abc41d8b4594/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)

Video codec QoS Summary • 1 x HD Video can use up to 10MBits/s or as little as
50kBits/sec
• Recording - based on events saves bandwidth
• Viewing - using secondary stream lower data rates
• Intelligent VMS software turns off streams when not being viewed
• CBR and VBR choices will affect bandwidth
• Local recording rather than central NVR
• Separate CCTV/NVR network - viewing over entire network
