SEPTEMBER 2014 8 South Bay Close

    REPULSE BAY, HONG KONG

    Installation of Pastor Joel

And I will give you shepherds after my own

heart, who will feed you with knowledge and

    understanding (Jeremiah 3:15)

And let the peace of Christ rule in your

hearts, to which indeed you were called in

one body. And be thankful. Let the word of

Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and

admonishing one another in all wisdom,

singing psalms and hymns and spiritual

songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to

God.And whatever you do, in word or deed,

do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,

giving thanks to God the Father through

    him. (Colossians 3:1517)

Church of All Nations is 52 years old.

Many people have poured their efforts into the community over those years. Lord of the church has poured out his

blessing and his spirit on us during that time.As we look toward ongoing ministry, we are aware and grateful for

    the blessings in the past.

On 7 September at the11:00 service, Joel Scheiwe will be installed as

our new pastor. He has been serving us for a number of months, but at

this time, we will gather to ask the blessings of God and formallyinstall him into the office of pastor at our church.

The installation will be conducted by Reverend Paul Linnemann,

president of the Northwest District of the LutheranChurch Missouri

Synod (LCMS). Church of All Nations is a congregation of the LCMS

which means we are connected to a whole community of

congregations that love the Gospel, preach Grace alone, and carry a

tradition of quality education and schools. Having President

Linnemann join our congregation highlights the worldwide family of

    Christ.

This is also an opportunity to strengthen our own community.

TheInstallation of Pastor Joel is a chance to celebrate, connect, and

reach out to others. Following the worship service, we will gather

    for lunch and celebration.

    Pastoral Letter

Dear Friends and Family at CAN,

Don't let my name, Chen-Hsi, stop you from saying Hello. For those of you

who are familiar with the Pinyin system, my name is Zhen-xi, and sounds like

Jen-She. Yet I respond as well to my doctors in the States when they call me

"Chen." Sometimes the kids in Sunday School call me Mrs. Hanson.

Our family has been serving in Asia as missionaries with the Lutheran Church

for the past 17 years. The past nine years we have been based here in Hong

Kong and actively involved with different ministries at CAN. We have three

children studying in three different divisions at HKIS.

I was blessed to serve as the director of Children's Ministry for several of years when we first came to CAN. I have

also taught in Sunday School for many years. Now it's my privilege to serve as a part time secretary of CAN, under

the leadership of Pastor Joel and the team work of Megan Birney. I plan to be in the office most of the mornings

during the week. I am looking forward to serving you.

    Blessings,

    Chenhsi Hanson

    Introducing Our New Secretary!

God is Gracious and has blessed us at Church of All Nations.

We are a diverse community gathered around the blessings

of Gods word and his sacraments of Baptism and Lord

Supper. He has brought us all to Hong Kong in various

ways, some by birth, some long ago, and some who haveonly just arrived. God has called us all to this church so

that we can speak Gods word to each other and be

encouraged by the saints he has gathered with us. God has

called us together in this church and blessed us so that his

saving power may be known among all nations! (Psalm

    67:2).

At Church of All Nations, we say that we are equipping

people to impact Asia through Worship, Discovery, and

Service in Christ. We equip eachother through the many

gifts he has given each one of us. We begin the discovery on

August 24 with Discovery Sunday as we connect to the Bible Study, devotional, and fellowship groups that flow outof Church of All Nations. We equip eachother for service both in the organized service activities we do as a

congregation, and in the myriad ways the people of Church of All Nations are in service to Hong Kong and around

the world each day. And to bind it all together, God calls to worship: to give us his gifts of Grace, and to return to

him our prayers and praise. Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you!

Look through the items in this newsletter. See all the photos, stories, and opportunities for engaging together in

community in Christ. Like me, you might smile or chuckle at some of the faces and be surprised at all the ways we

can worship, discover, and serve together. Join with me and give thanks to our gracious God who has blessed this

community. Join with me in prayer that all the nations, especially those around us in Hong Kong might know the

    saving power of Christ.

What a great turnout this year! More than 70 kids joined VBS this

year at CAN. At Weird Animals VBS, kids met a new Bible Buddy,

a weird animal, each day, who helps them remember that when they

feel weird, different, or left out, Jesus loves them! Each day, kids

learned the Bible Point of the day as they rotated between six

stations Sing & Play Stampede, One-of-a-Kind Bible

Adventures, KidVid Cinema and Missions, Imagination Station,

    Untamed Games and Critter Cafe.

As Summer approaches and our congregation

fans out around the globe, we remember:

    ! God's far-reaching

    lovefor us shown through

    His son Jesus;

    ! wherever we are, we aresentin that love;

    ! we are sent withblessingsandgifts

    from God,by which others can

    encounter God's love.

We are joined together as a church to nurtureeach other in God's love and share it with others.

What can you do to show Christ

to others? How are you joined

    together in God's love?

Our church continues its ministries over the

summer to share God's love and care in Hong

Kong and abroad. If you will be traveling, please

consider how you can support our ministries

while you are away. Offering envelopes are

available in the church entry, and CAN can

    receive post-dated cheques.

If you are staying in Hong Kong, please extend

your hand in fellowship and active ministry. The

other side of this sheet outlines just a few ways to

get involved. Your participation is especially

important as we all pitch in to prepare for our

new pastor, build on existing ministries, and

    explore fresh opportunities.

Wherever you are sent, please join with us as

God continues to bless CAN with minds to

understand needs, hearts to care, and hands to

    give.

"...you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but...members of His household, built on the

foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In

him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.

And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His

    Spirit."

Can You Share Your Talents and Time?

Sharing Your Financial Gifts in MinistryCAN is blessed with extraordinary opportunities for ministry, and needs your continued gifts of time, talent and

    financial support to realize them.

This year our congregation planned ministries and programs based on financial gifts of HK$2.752 million (weeklyaverage of HK$52,920). We are taking on as full-time contract staff Megan Birney, our Family Life Director, who

continues to grow our ministry to children, youth and families. We support and participate in service ministries in

Hong Kong, Macau, China and the Philippines.

As of 1 June, general gifts for this fiscal year totaled about HK$466,000-- or HK$11,000 below our target of HK

$477,000. Designated Gifts for special projects totalled about HK$14,500.

CAN's ministry is funded solely by current congregational giving. It does not receive funding from HKIS or any

external sources. Thanks to all for your gifts from the heart!

    Thank you from Carol Halter

    Dear Members of CAN,

A heartfelt thanks to you for your generosity

in supporting the mission work that I do.

Recently your gifts entirely financed a special

    outing of Savior Lutheran School.

    The

purpose of the one day outing was to bring the

Gospel to the parents of the children who

attend this school for special education. The

parents and children met at Sham Shui Po,

Kowloon and took a rented bus to Yuen Long,

New Territories for the day camp. The day

camp included many different ways of proclaiming the Gospel.

These included singing, games, testimonies, and

Gospel presentations. It also included a meal together at lunchtime. Below you see some pictures taken at

    the campsite.

If you would like to see some more pictures that were taken by Megan Kincaid that day, you can go to the

    "LITTLE IS MUCH, WHEN

    GOD IS IN IT."

    Those words, rich in

    meaning, came to life

    when Elsie Vitaliano

    shared this picture with

    FPSC. A donation that

    we made a while back

    has helped to raise this

    little church in the

    Philippines. That little

church on the hill is a

    testimony of how God

can make much out ofwhat might appear

    small to us.

    Ministry in Philippines

Church of All Nations will be taking a family-friendly service trip to Concordia Children's Services (CCS), in

Manila, Philippines. The team will depart Hong Kong the evening of Tuesday, September 30, and return the

evening of Saturday, October 4. While at CCS, the team will host VBS for elementary scholarship students,

complete a number of facility improvement and beautification projects, as well as, care, feed and play with
