In the summer of 2009 work began on our sanctuary renovation and HVAC upgrade. A loan was taken out from First Merit Bank under the following terms: $550,000 at 5.83% interest on a 15 year schedule. The original terms were subject to review every three years. In December of 2012 First Merit Bank reviewed our loan and renewed it under the current terms: a principle of $295,000 at 4.15% interested which left a total pay- out of $375,000 (principle of $295,000 + interest of $80,000 = $375,000 total). Now, here comes the great news. As of June 1, the balance of the principle on the loan is a little over $56,000! That means we have paid down $239,000 worth of principle on our loan since December 2012 (see chart). In addition to that, at the beginning of 2014 we paid-off the mortgage on the building which houses Marian’s Closet, which was nearly $40,000. All of this is cause for celebration – “Praise the Lord!” How did we do that? Well, we did it through your generosity and our good stewardship. Many of Can Someone Say, “Praise the Lord”? you made pledges to our capital funds campaign, and were faithful to fulfill those pledges. Thank you! The rest came about through surplus giving. The past two years (2013 and 2014) we experienced a significant surplus in our weekly tithes and offerings. And some of that budget surplus has come from the good stewardship of our Church Council and our Staff-Parish Relationship and Finance Committees in realigning our paid-servant ministry needs and salaries. Now, our goal is to be debt-free by the end of this year! As many of you know, in 2016 we will celebrate our 200th anniversary as a Methodist congregation in Wadsworth. Wouldn’t it be awesome to begin our third century as Methodists in Wadsworth debt-free? I am confident we can do it! Imagine the work and ministry we could potentially do with the $60,000 we are now spending on building debt. This congregation has a long history of facing and meeting all kinds of challenges. Our hope and prayer is that we will do it again! Let’s be debt-free by 2016.
