YOUNG PEOPLE EVERYWHERE HAVE THE POWER

TO BE THE BEST VERSION OF THEMSELVES ... OUR JOB IS TO GUIDE THEM THROUGH

ON THEIR JOURNEY

Page 3: Canadian Island Summer Camp 2014

Welcome to Canadian Island Summer Camp!

For more than fifteen years, our summer camp in Tuscany has given young people from around the world the opportunity to become a better version of themselves.

We do this by providing a safe and supportive environment where they feel comfortable to not only try a range of new activities, but also grow as individuals.

Our firsthand experience shows us that our campers can easily adapt to living in a new country and thrive on challenges, so long as they feel at home in their new environment.

With the right mix of guidance and support young people can go from shy individuals to kids who are able to conquer a ropes course, make pizza and form life changing friendships in two languages - English and Italian.

EXTRA: In addition to encouraging young people to learn a new language, we also make sure they use their time with us to reconnect with nature. From helping to grow organic food to climbing trees and horse riding, young people learn to respect the world around them. The Tuscan hillsides, which have inspired travellers and artists for centuries, are another key ingredient in our nature program.

Over the years, we have watched as the boys and girls who attended our first camp have grown into young men and women. In many ways, their journey to adulthood has been symbolic of our own. We have worked hard to constantly improve our camp and look for ways to make the Canadian Island summer experience a truly memorable one - and we are proud of the inroads we have made toward drawing out the best in both the Canadian and Italian cultures.HOW OLD ARE YOU? Our campers range in age from 7 to 17 years and are divided into three main groups: from 7 to 10, from 11 to 13 and from 14 to17. Keeping teenagers and younger children separate is a deliberate choice that makes camp a safer and more enjoyable place for all involved. It also means that the groups are smaller, giving campers more one-on-one time with our specialised camp counsellors.

We look forward to seeing you at Canadian Island

A CANADIAN CAMP WITH AN ITALIAN HEART

We are keen believers in the importance of cultural exchanges and overseas experiences for young people. Which is why we offer such a diverse range of activities to school age students wanting to learn more about Tuscany,

Italy.

From Renaissance artists like Michelangelo and Botticelli to writers such as Dante or modern cinema favourites in the form of Roberto Benigni, Tuscany

was and is a region famous for its contribution to the arts.

In keeping with this tradition, our campers take part in: daily language classes, excursions to historical sites and world-famous museums, art and theatre workshops, field trips to local farms or beaches and traditional Italian cooking

classes designed for kids.

Young people also have the chance to mix with local Italian students at camp, helping to improve language acquisition and increase cultural awareness.

Mixing two or more cultural groups together has its challenges but it can also turn the simplest activity into an enriching cultural exchange.

See you at camp!

Our country farmhouse setting overlooks the Maremma coastline. Rooms vary in terms of size and sleeping capacity and come with your choice of shared or private bathrooms. Spacious, clean and tidy, the farmhouse is the ideal location for our campers. Nearby vineyards and rolling country-side provides a serene setting for young people.

A MESSAGE FROM MARIA AND LUCIA

We know the choice of a summer camp is an important one. Which is why we try to draw on our own experience as mothers to make sure that each individual child gets the attention and support they deserve.

Camp at Canadian Island is designed to both challenge and encourage young people to feel comfortable in their own skin, and their ability to make positive choices.

We do this by creating a truly welcoming environment where young people feel comfortable to be themselves - and gain confidence from mixing with people from different cultures, speaking a foreign language, learning new skills and

testing their own ability to overcome challenges.

We hope that Canadian Island Summer Camp becomes a part of your child’s life for many years to come.

Lucia & Maria
