Since then, it has grown to boast the largest chorale in the county—some 150 voices, raising more than $1 million since its inception. This year’s concert, Concert of Hope & Remembrance Choir—UNPLUGGED will take place on September 16 at Boulevard Baptist Church. Bob and Carla are leading extra-ordinary lives, well-lived and well-loved. Please join us at our HEROES of Hope & Remembrance gala as we seek to honor their living legacy. And speaking of legacy… A few rare souls are so consumed with kindness that it shines through so brightly, giving a warm glow to every room they enter. They may never say a word, but they speak volumes with their contagious smile. Such a man was Dave Schonauer. Dave was a former president of CAA’s board and longtime board member, serving our community, alongside his beloved wife, Diane. He also battled cancer for a number of years, finally succumbing to his unrelenting enemy on Saturday, April 8, 2017. The first time I met Dave was at my first interview for the position of Director for CAA. I walked into the AnMed conference room and his was the first smile to meet mine. I could never forget that welcoming smile! I had several opportunities to talk with him after coming on board at CAA. I can honestly say, Dave was one of the kindest and most generous people I have ever met. When I think of him and Diane, I’m reminded of one of my favorite quotes, “People may forget what you say, but they will never ever forget the way you made them feel.” Diane and Dave embody this phrase! Dave’s influence, his impact and his footprints are engraved on the CAA as well as on many of your hearts and lives. Dave had the unique ability to make everyone feel like they were the only one in the room. He made everyone feel loved. His smile was infectious. Although he has left us to bask in his eternal reward, he will live on in our memories as well as through his legacy of good deeds. We will never forget the way you made us feel, Dave! VOLUNTEERS WANTED!

The Cancer Association of Anderson is very fortunate to have so many extra-ordinary people who stand with and support our mission. We often refer to these very special people as our HEROES. As a matter of fact, we now have a special evening dedicated to the recognition and honor of some of our Heroes. On Tuesday, May 9th, CAA will honor Bob and Carla Heritage as our

2017 Heroes of Hope & Remembrance.

These two precious people are the “inspiration and perspiration behind CAA’s annual Concert of Hope & Remembrance. The Heritages organized the first concert in 2002. Please join us at our HEROES of Hope & Remembrance gala as

we seek to honor their living legacy.

And speaking of legacy…

A few rare souls are so consumed with kindness that it shines through so brightly, giving a warm glow to every room they enter. They may never say a word, but they speak volumes with their contagious smile. Such a man was Dave Schonauer. Dave was a former president of CAA’s board and longtime board member, serving our community, alongside his beloved wife, Diane. He also battled cancer for a number of years, finally succumbing to his unrelenting

enemy on Saturday, April 8, 2017.

When I think of him and Diane, I’m reminded of one of my favorite quotes, “People may forget what you say, but they will never ever forget the way you made them feel.” Diane and Dave embody this

phrase!

Dave’s influence, his impact and his footprints are engraved on the CAA as well as on many of

your hearts and lives.
