Your RewardWhat makes it unique?
Your Reward is the value of
everything you get in return
for working at the RBS group.
It’s designed to:
• Reward excellence, by
providing a direct link between
pay and performance.
• Support our business goals
and recognise the pursuit
and achievement of
individual goals.
• Pay progression based on

Be market-competitive
Salary levels are benchmarked for
all employees, against the specic

they work and the talents, skills and
competencies they bring to the
Group. High performers have the
opportunity to be among the best
paid in their market.
Allow for customisation
Our reward structure allows
for customisation both at the
divisional level and by each
individual employee. As a
result each division has its own
salary and bonus or incentive
arrangements. You will get further
information on Your Reward and
other RBS group benets when
you join us from your local HR
representative or line manager.
Motorvate
Saying ‘thank you’ is also a key
element of how we acknowledge
your hard work. One of the ways
in which we do this through
Your Reward is by entering the
names of all employees who have
3 or more years service into a draw
to win one of two brand new cars
every month.
includes the following:
• Your Reward• Your Development• Your Lifestyle
We strongly believe it is important to offer an overall package whichprovides candidates with individual choice and exibility. Your Choice
brings together the huge range of opportunities available to you as a
successful RBS group employee. With so many choices available,
it can be confusing, so we’re making it easier to see what’s on offer
and pick what’s right.

The Group recognises that
everyone has different interests,
passions and priorities and
provides a range of programmes
to help you maintain your
work-life balance and to
care for the environment.
Your Feedback
Your Feedback is the Group wide
Employee Opinion Survey which
provides you with an opportunity to
tell us how the Group is performing
across a wide range of areas that
are important to you.
We survey people across the
Globe in all our locations and in
many languages. The results of
the survey help plan actions and
changes for the next 12 months,
with the aim of continuously
improving your experience of
working for the Group.
The Your Feedback survey results
are used for a number of purposes:
• Understanding what we do well,
and what we don’t do well
• Making improvements to the
environment you work in, through
focused action planning
• Enhancing our employee brand
by sharing information externally –
attracting new people to come
and work for us.
Work-Out
Work-out is the RBS group’s
problem-solving and continuous
improvement framework.
It is the way everyone across our
organisation can be involved in
improving how we do things.
It’s made up of a collection of
different tools and techniques –
so you can use the framework to
improve customer service, make
improvements to the way the
Group operates, or simply identify
the ways to make your job more
straightforward.
Work-Out enables you to work
with your colleagues to make
decisions about your team or unit.
Improvements identied can then
be quickly implemented.
We will provide you with
the environment to grow
and develop by giving
you a wide range of
development opportunities
at all stages of your career.
We invest in a range of
learning and development
programmes for all our
employees that give you
the support to perform at
your best. You will have
regular conversations
with your line manager
through the performance
management process
that will identify your
individual learning and
development needs
through your Personal
Development Plan.
Your Development
We are committed to investing in
our people so they can perform
their role effectively and reach their
potential. To deliver great service
to our customers it’s important we
have the right people in the right
roles, with the right attitude and
capability to perform.
We encourage employees to
take responsibility for their own
learning and development and
provide targeted learning activities
to meet business and individual
development needs, including
access to a range of resources
which includes e-learning. We
also offer support to employees
undertaking professional or
vocational qualications relevant
to their role.
Your Performance
You and your manager will work
together to dene what is expected
of you, provide the support you
need to meet these expectations
and feed back on how well you
have performed against them.
Your objectives would be
driven by business goals and
link back to the objectives of our
organisation. This ensures that we
can provide a challenging and
rewarding environment for you to
work in, where you are stretched
and stimulated and given the
opportunity to grow.
Formal performance reviews take
place half-yearly (in July) and
annually (in January) as a minimum
standard. You should also meet
with your line manager regularly
for informal reviews to discuss
your ongoing performance against
objectives. Your line manager
is there to provide coaching,
feedback and support. Your
performance is assessed against
results achieved relative to agreed
objectives and the demonstration
of competencies and behaviours.
Your Performance is measured
against a scale from 1 (lowest)
to 5 (highest) and these ratings
drive remuneration. A 3 rating is
considered good.
You will have a Personal
Development Plan based on the
training and development needs
you and your line manager identify,
which you should discuss regularly
with to help you develop your
career and realise your potential.
Your Career
Attracting, retaining and managing
talent is central to the future growth
and success of our business. We
provide support and development
to ensure you have the opportunity
to grow and realise your potential.
With our international reach, your
career can take you anywhere
across the Group, with opportunities
widely communicated internally. We
recognise the importance of making
the right decisions about matching
the right people to the right jobs and
ensure all candidates are treated in
a fair and equitable manner.
Assessment will be appropriate,
based on the requirements of the
job and what makes for success
in the job to ensure we promote a
meritocracy.
That means that the best equipped
person gets the job regardless of
race, colour, religion, gender or
anything else. It’s not a philosophy
that was adopted because we’re
forced to do that by law, or anything
else, it’s just because we believe
that is the right way to behave.
We have a long standing talent
programme which is used to
help identify leadership potential,
development strengths and needs
mapped against our competency
framework to ensure people get all
the support they require to meet
their leadership ambitions.
We understand the part all our
employees have in encouraging
people to join us and within the
RBS group we like to recognise this
through nancial rewards for you as
part of our global Employee Referral
Scheme which is currently being
rolled out across the Group.

The UK – Rise no surprise
After 20 years with the RBS group and 15 different roles,Jannine Warwick has seen plenty of change. Yet when she
joined the Lombard Street Branch of RBS as a school leaver
in 1987 all she had was a positive attitude, an open mind and
a exible approach. Today she heads the GM Events and
Hospitality department.
Along the way, Jannine has developed an in-depth
understanding of the Group’s culture, how it functions and
who can help. The biggest challenge? Keeping pace with the
speed of business. ‘People expect immediate answers today
due to the immediacy of technology, and we have to deliver’
she states. ‘Streamlined processes help, as does
our at structure.’
So, what’s the secret to her long and successful career atthe Group? ‘I’ve always tried to exceed expectations’, says
Jannine. ‘Surprise them with more than they ask for. It’s how
I’ve developed long-term, loyal relationships with internal and
external clients – relationships that still make me want to come
to work every day.’
How can you make it happen?
That’s enough about us…
over to you.
Europe – Customer oriented initiative
Dominik Cousin has been with RBS Coutts in Switzerland
since 1990 and is a senior private banker leading the Eastern
European department. He’s worked in the Near and Middle
East for the bank and in early 2008 became a senior client
partner, reporting directly to the head of private banking.
‘The freedom you get at RBS Coutts is really refreshing,
although you always have support’, says Dominik.
‘Managers give you an impressive amount of autonomy to
develop new business and grow your skills by coaching less
experienced private bankers.
It’s easy to evolve and launch new products and servicesright away with the ‘green light’ from senior managers.
Recently, for example, I identied the need some of my clients
had for plane and yacht nance and I’m now working to make
that nancing product a reality for them.’
Asia – Investing in our staff
It was the challenge of the Investment Analyst role that
drew Terence Tan to the Coutts team in Singapore. With
experience of equities research in various sectors, he took on
a geographically-focused role covering all equity markets in
South East Asia and India.
Within 15 months he was promoted to Senior Investment
Analyst. He credits the rise to his colleagues’ willingness to
share their market insights as much as to his own talents.
That and the support of his manager, Susan Chua,
Head of Investments in South East Asia.
Susan gave him the opportunity to attend investment
conferences and visit listed corporations across South East
Asia. She also gave him extra responsibilities to help fast
track his learning curve and develop his condence.
So what’s next? Terence is thinking globally. ‘I’d like to
become a global equities specialist, marketing ideas to
end clients. I have Susan’s support to give our clients more
specialised equities support by expanding the equities team.’
And Terence enjoys knowing he has the support of those
around him. After more than 12 years in the investment worldhe says, ‘The team spirit at Coutts is one of the best I’ve
encountered.’
Thousands of people, countless stories, one ambition.

The Americas – Responsive to your needs
Listening in…
Patricia Dundee is Managing Director in the North American
Energy Finance Group in GBM Houston. She’s been with
the RBS group since 1986, and joined as a Junior Analyst
essentially straight from college.
We asked her for her thoughts on her experiences to date…
Q1: Patty, what struck you most about working at the RBS
group when you rst joined?
PD: I realised that teamwork was the key and relationship
building was crucial. Our clients may be some of the largest
oil and gas companies in the world (like ExxonMobil), but
essentially what we do is all about the people and the
longevity of the relationships we build with our clients. It’s
very gratifying when the analyst you did your rst deal with
becomes the Executive Vice President or Chief Financial
Ofcer of the company you call on.
Q2: What have been the major changes you’ve noticed in the
time you’ve been with the Group?
PD: I think the Group has really changed in its approach to
its employees. We now make sure that even the most junior
employee has a voice in how we do business. We listen to
them and react positively to change things for the better.
We’re only 30 people in the Houston ofce, but we actually
model the Group’s culture really well. We don’t mind who has
the answer, we just work together to nd the best solution.
Q3: What would you say hasn’t changed since 1986?
PD: There are still no limits to what you can achieve –
particularly now the Group is an international force to be
reckoned with! It does whatever it can to keep good people.
Talented, ambitious employees can stay with the Group and
enjoy the most incredible careers. I’m a case in point. I came
from a small town in Texas where I went to a local university.
At the RBS group I have become an MD and travelled the
world with my work. I’m also a working mom and importantly
the Group has always given me the support and freedom to
nd the work/life balance I need.
