This is a good reason why I decided to continue in EMSA- Europe. So lets continue to make friends for life with EMSA! ABOUT ME I was born in Istanbul, where traditional Middle East and Modern Europe overlap, on 28th of December 1986. I graduated from Batman Science High School and the field that I graduated in was totally based on science. Since my primary school years, I have preferred a life style which covers both the social aspects and responsibilities of the life. In my younger years, I acquired my work discipline and realized the effectiveness of being a team during my football career. I played football, both school and amateur teams, between 1995-2003. At the same time I was interested in political issues and the problems of society as a young student with full of diligence and enthusiasm. Therefore, I started to work in non-governmental organisations as a volunteer. I spent my high school years dealing with science. I did scientific studies within a team and I gave some scientific conferences at that time. One of the most important of them was in 2002 and it was about “superconductors”. With this conference, I took the attention of the press and I was rewarded with two national awards. In 2005, I started my undergraduate study at the medical school of Yeditepe University as a prep-school student. I continued my scientific studies in here too. I worked in laboratories of diverse fields and got involved with the publication of some scientific papers. And this year, I will start my 5th of year in medicine.

CANDIDATURE LETTER FOR SECRETARY GENERAL 2011/2012

EMSA GENERAL ASSEMBLY 1-4 SEPTEMBER 2011- LEIDEN

Dear EMSA members,

Thousands of words can be written about my enthusiasm to

EMSA but I want to keep it short…

I believe the time and energy devoted in organisations like

EMSA gives a three-fold reward: you have good time, you

make friends for life and it certainly does not harm your

professional career later on the contrary makes better. This is

a good reason why I decided to continue in EMSA- Europe. So

lets continue to make friends for life with EMSA!

ABOUT ME

I was born in Istanbul, where traditional Middle East and Modern Europe overlap, on 28th of

December 1986. I graduated from Batman Science High School and the field that I graduated in

was totally based on science. Since my primary school years, I have preferred a life style which

covers both the social aspects and responsibilities of the life. In my younger years, I acquired my

work discipline and realized the effectiveness of being a team during my football career. I played

football, both school and amateur teams, between 1995-2003. At the same time I was interested

in political issues and the problems of society as a young student with full of diligence and

enthusiasm. Therefore, I started to work in non-governmental organisations as a volunteer.

I spent my high school years dealing with science. I did scientific studies within a team and I

gave some scientific conferences at that time. One of the most important of them was in 2002

and it was about “superconductors”. With this conference, I took the attention of the press and

I was rewarded with two national awards. In 2005, I started my undergraduate study at the

medical school of Yeditepe University as a prep-school student. I continued my scientific studies

in here too. I worked in laboratories of diverse fields and got involved with the publication of

some scientific papers. And this year, I will start my 5th of year in medicine.

ABOUT NEXT YEAR

EMSA is expanding in Europe day by day within the responsibility of being European medical

students' voice. For this meaningful aim, EMSA makes new magnificent events come true. From

now on, 18 international EMSA events happen annually. For students who become active in

international level, EMSA is going to make these meetings and projects more efficient with the

help of professional support by EMSA Europe. There will be also a general promotional program

which will make possibly to FMOs promote their events sufficiently.

Last GAs showned us that the FMOs are on a satisfactory level about promoting, but with still a

lot of work in need to be done in as soon as possible. We all want the synergy effect of 1+1=2 to

appear in the EMSA and working with members directly, we can truly reach our goals together

and continue to contribute to the EMSA more and more.

Here below list you can see annual EMSA events. Next year, I will contact with all related FMOs

and we will try to make events more efficient and attractive.

There is several factors that shape EMSA’s today and future. And EMSA meetings are one of important of the these factors.

Insouciance of members to meetings are because of lack of professional support is indeed a big problem for many FMOs. This of course has significant effect on recognition of EMSA.

EMSA needs to search for new ways to find solutions...

We should keep in mind that the EMSA-Europe needs to be in a proper contact with FMOs in

order to increase the quality, attractiveness and internationalization of EMSA events. It is

impossible to achieve innovative and creative solutions and to build up a sustainable and safe

events/congress without collaborating organizing committee of these FMOs.

To increase the number, quality and awareness of evets in EMSA, a guide for organizing

commitee, which includes such information as what are the steps to organise an event, what

skills necessarry for members for which type of events, possible funding sources and how to

set up a strategy on national and local level, will be prepared by me. EMSA needs to set its

standards very high when organising events. In general, the events are organised by organising

committees at the universities where the tasks are divided after individual knowledge,

motivation and experience. To secure the quality of the EMSA events, we need to constructe a

guideline on how an organising committee should and could organise events in a high quality

level. These guidelines also give the organising committees basic knowledge on how to actually

organise an event step by step.

The other solution that I want to carry out next year is creating an “EMSA Events” webpage.

With this webpage, members will follow all local and international events from this website.

Besides that, they could post and edit their events from this website directly.

REGULAR WORKS

1. Maintenance the contact with the NC’s and/or LC’s together with the VPi

2. Maintenance of the EMSA documents and being in contact with the FMOs

3. Writing minutes

4. Maintenance the contact with the Organising Committees of International events together with the VPe.

5. Having an efficient communication with the FMOs

6. Keeping the FMO list up to date

7. Instruct and help the NCs and LCs how to manage the FMO better

8. Send out the minutes and/or reports of the General Assembly, the National Co-ordinators Meeting and the EMSA European Board Meetings to the EMSA-net mailing.

9. Increase the internal communication within EMSA as an organisation.

10. Maintenance of the EMSA Statutes and Internal Rules

SPECIFIC TASKS

One step: Increase recognition of EMSA within International

Organizations

EMSA has gained a good name and reputation in the international associations. EMSA is known

especially in the European organisations and institutions and still makes them aware of the fact

that in case they are looking for a partner among students’ organisations for co-operation,

EMSA is there to rely on. The co-operation between international organisations and institutions

and NGOs such as EMSA is based on the exchange of information. From our perspective, EMSA

should always be informed about the programmes and projects of international organisations

and institutions in which it is relevant and important for EMSA to actively participate. From the

other perspective, it is equally important that EMSA informs the international organisations and

institutions about its programmes and projects.

Representing EMSA between these associations is an important matter all time. EMSA is young!

And it becomes really important to benefit from experience EMSAi, especially meeting or

conferences that EMSA send representative. There are several meetings that we create

students taskforce and send them to conferences/meetings such as AMEE Conference,

MEDINE2 Meetings, HIA-Europe, and WHSS.

One of the my aim to contribute to EMSA ,as Executive Board member, for next year will be try

to focus on these subject “as a team”. With directors or liasion officers, I believe that we will

create a new and sustainable structure in this field.

FINAL WORDS

EMSA’s future is defined by the people in it, by the history we

have, and by the activities we are organising.

Skilled and open-minded people create the platform of the present generation. It is true, but

they become such by participating in various activities, by organising events, by communicating

with their colleagues in different countries and by participating in trainings. Kevin Murphy once

wrote - learning that produces no change is about as useful as a parachute that doesn’t open. I

know that and this is why I believe it was worth it after all stress and bore I felt this year.

I am proud that EMSA was a part of my live and I was a part of EMSA’s life. EMSA is one of the

things I will proud all time! Hurrah for EMSA

Last year, I wrote in my candidature: “I may be new in EMSA but I am excited and hungry to

achieve great jobs...” .And now, I am still excited and hungry but this time I am also more

experience
