2 Canley Vale High School – Term 2 Managed Return to School - Phase 1 Parent Information

Parent update

The Premier has announced that NSW Public School students will gradually transition back to school, one day per week, beginning in Week 3 (Monday 11 May).

As you would appreciate, the complexity of our school with 1609 students and over 150 staff, required careful consideration before a finalised plan could be issued. There are an enormous number of factors that needed to be taken into consideration to ensure that this is a successful plan and keeps our students and staff healthy and safe.

Phase 1 – CVHS Term 2 Managed Return to School Plan

On Monday 11 May (Week 3), we will move into Phase 1 of the CVHS Term 2 Managed Return to School Plan for students. All students will attend school one day per week and learning from home 4 days per week.

Year 12 and the HSC 2020

The plan has been developed to transition Yr12 students from 1 day per week in Week 3 to 2 days per week in Week 4 and then 4 days per week in Week 5. HSC students who have Major Projects to complete are still able to schedule additional times with their teacher to continue to work on these at school. As the HSC is going ahead for 2020, we will still run the HSC Trial Examination and assessment tasks as per the Year 12 Assessment Booklet. Students will be issued an amended assessment schedule for any course altering assessments. Updates regarding NESA information can be found here.

The online learning continues to follow the normal timetable and students will be expected to be online for each period. Rolls will be marked every lesson and parents will continue to be informed if their child is not engaging or participating in the online learning. Students of essentials workers who need to attend school on additional days will continue to be supervised to complete their online learning. Bell times will remain unchanged except for Yr7 (7S, 7Y, 7L, 7N, 7V) students who are scheduled to attend school on Tuesday, these students have a 9:35am start time. Local transport routes including dedicated bus routes are expected to continue to operate during Term 2. Parents driving their child to and from school are asked to remain in their cars during all pick up and drop off times. The Canteen will re-open from 11 May with a reduced menu (please see page 14). Lunch orders must be pre-ordered before school or at recess.

Hygiene and Social Distancing Everyone must practise good hygiene to protect against infection and prevent the spread of COVID-19. At school, we will provide all teachers with hand sanitizer for students to use as they enter and exit the classroom. Disinfectant wipes or sprays will also be used to wipe down student desks after use as well as to wipe loan laptops or Chromebooks. Students will be spread out across classrooms to support social distancing or depending on class numbers placed in larger learning spaces. There will be additional cleaning during the day at school and social distancing encouraged during break times. The website https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families has been updated and has further information that will be useful. We have not been informed of when we will move to the next Phase. I will continue to update all families on a regular basis through our school website, Facebook and Sentral Parent Portal.
