To avoid risking your business license, as well as citations and fines from agency inspectors such as Cal/OSHA and your local Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA), your business will need a multitude of EH&S services. The package of services you’ll need will depend on your specific operations. These services include OSHA, EPA, and DOT training as well as the development and maintenance of documents such as a Waste Management Plan, Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Hazardous Materials Business Plan, and Emergency Action Plan, among others. Many cannabis industry businesses will need to perform waste characterization, identify compliant waste disposal procedures, and engage in proper recordkeeping and housekeeping practices.
Our suite of EH&S compliance services can provide your cannabis industry business with the peace of mind needed to be able to focus on your primary objective: serving your clients to the best of your abilities. An experienced NES professional will visit your business, assess your operations, and put together a comprehensive action plan to ensure you and your employees achieve compliance—and we’ll make sure your business stays compliant. And that is what we mean when we say…
But there is one key difference: the legal cannabis industry is new. The regulations are confusing and constantly evolving, many cannabis business owners/operators are learning to run a business for the first time, and the growing pains of moving from the darkness and stigma of the past to the blinding light of regulation can often contribute to legal cannabis businesses failing.
NES, Inc. (NES) is an environmental, health & safety (EH&S) training and consulting firm that has been serving regulated businesses throughout California and beyond since 1987. These businesses need to check a myriad of boxes in order to maintain compliance with the numerous regulatory requirements that pertain to their operations. In this and many other ways, cannabis businesses are just like those in any other regulated industry.

may be generating hazardous waste.
Did You Know…?NES trains regulators on the constantly changing regulations and
best practices for entering and assessing cannabis operations.REMEMBER: Regulators want legal cannabis businesses to succeed, not the illegal market that destroys the environment and the bottom
lines of legal businesses!
California cannabis businesses are now required by licensing agencies to have at least one supervisor and one employee complete Cal/OSHA 30-Hour General Industry training. This program is required by Cal/OSHA to cover certain topics, but we tailor the program so that it fits the context of cannabis industry operations; however, anyone seeking Cal/OSHA 30-Hour General Industry training can attend this program and become certified. Participants attending this 30-hour class will receive training from an OSHA Training Institute Education Center-authorized outreach program trainer on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in the workplace. Course participants will be provided with information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and filing a complaint. Students will receive a course completion card.
While cannabis operations present a standard subset of hazards, this course is designed to help prevent occupational incidents by increasing awareness of and familiarity with safety and health hazards encountered generally in any industry workplace.
The NES Cal/OSHA 30-Hour General Industry training program covers a range of key topics, including managing safety & health, exit routes, Fire Prevention Plans & fire protection, electrical, basic industrial hygiene concepts, hazardous materials & materials handling, machine guarding, and health hazards.
