They have been working in multi-age groups with Year 6 leaders on a musical challenge. They have to retell the musical ‘Cats’; they must come up with four original songs, reference two landmarks in Orange and outline a competition where one of the cats is given an extra life. Each cat must have a descriptive name and have specific characteristics. Perhaps the hardest part of any challenge is the degree of cooperation that is needed. All groups have been extremely impressive so far! Bell Shakespeare On Monday 30 of our students attended a Bell Shakespeare workshop called ‘Magic and Mayhem’. Jessica from Bell Shakespeare took students through several characters with superhuman powers from A Midsummer Nights Dream, Macbeth and the Tempest. They created horrible insults using Shakespearean language and created both the Witch and beginning Tempest scenes. She was extremely impressed with our student’s creativity and knowledge of Shakespeare stories. Dr Karl Last term Year 5/6 approached Dr Karl Kruszelnicki with a question that needed an expert to answer. Cedar asked him about the eyes changing colour in colder weather. After his answer, he suggested that the class book a Q & A skype session with him later in the year which they are very excited about. Yesterday, out of the blue a box arrived for the class. It contained 15 signed books, all written by Dr Karl, and all with individual inscriptions. What a treat for our senior class! Thank you Dr Karl! Dung Beetles Last week Year 5/6 climbed the fence into the Charge’s paddock to collect a wheelbarrow full of cow dung. On Tuesday Sally Kirby arrived from Land Care with a box of dung beetles for 5/6 students to begin their dung beetle lifecycle breeding program. The students will observe the beetles every 2 weeks and check the health and activity of the brood. OHS Show The Orange High School Show was a treat for our students who were able to see many of their old Canobolas friends up on the stage. They were in drama groups, dancing or playing in bands. Well done! Spelling Bee Congratulations to Alex G, Beatrix, Ben and Caitlyn. All four won their sections in the tough Spelling Bee competitions here last week. They will go onto the regional finals in September. Thank you to Mrs Carrigan for organising the Spelling Bees! School Concert Term 3 Save the date for our School Concert next term. It is scheduled for Thursday 12 th September at Orange High School. This year it is a Variety Show. Happy holidays!! Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday.
