r.~Canon~sUser ..Oriented PhilosophyThe Canon CX-1 Desktop Computer was developedwith Canon's latest state-of-the-art technology andincorporates a user-oriented philosophy based onour worldwide experience in marketing desktopcomputers.

Word ProcessingThe CX-1 not only processes data but isalso capable of word processing. The CX-1 's word processing utilityencompasses printing and formatfunctions that include right marginjustification, underscoring, centering.indentation, heading, footing, and

any field-business, science, engineering, oreducation. In the office, it serves as the core of a totalinformation system, providing data and informationprocessing for statements and reports specificallydesigned to enhance office efficiency and decisionmaking. Special text and document retrieval andediting functions provide fast playback and repetitiveprintout of a variety of documents.

The CX-1 is the perfect business computer to carryout office rationalization. The CX-1 can be used in

i'i'i.=_\ ,,\dll\) SystemThe CX-1 realizes system flexibility byadopting a floppy disk operating systemcalled the Monitor Propram for CanonX-Series or MCX. It consists of a devicehandler, file management system, console command processor, andsupervisor call function.TITe r.1CX completely controls 3f,SIC and ..ASSEMBLER languages, specialEDITOR, SPOOL, and DEBUGGERfunctions, and all other operationsperformed by the CX-1.

Re~d)-l o-Use SystemThe CX-1 employs an MC-6809microprocessor, widely acclaimed as themost powerful of the 8-bit processors, and a floppy disk operating system forflexibility and expandability.System initialization and diagnosticfunctions automatically start a systemcheck as soon as the power is turned on,to make sure that there are noirregularities or malfunctions. Once theMCX Operating System is loaded into thesystem RAM area from the mini-floppydisk, the CX-1 is ready for BASICcommand entry by the operator.

Func uonar KeyboarciAn independent 1O-key numeric pad hasbeen added to the fuli ASCII keyboard tomake heavy numeric data input taster

Easier programming is possible by dualcommand entry; statements can bespelled out using alphabetic keys or canbe en ered by using keywords assiqnedto speci IC alphabetic keys.

_cj'Sc CR -:-[);:;r.,!t y Scr eer,The easy-ta-read, 1 2-inch green CRTdisplay is the conversational centeroerween the CX-l and the operator. TheeRl screen can display 128 differentcharac a symbols inc!udill9 thosetor the construction of charts and tables. In addition, it is also possible to callattention to specific locations on the

screen by increasing the brightness of 64characters.The screen image can be stored on a dis«as a data image file and can later bereproduced on the CRT screen. Tnisscreen image can be easily updated andoutput to an external printer for a hardcopy at any time. A special BASIC screeneditor has also been included for easyBASIC program editing. In the near future,a graphic function will be added to theseexcellent functions as an option.

Bulk Information ProcessingThe CX-l features as standard, a 32K-byte user's RAM and two 320K-byte Mini-Floppy Disk drives. The user's fiAM canbe extended to a maximum of 96K-bytesThe Mini-Floppy Disk System X-3300(320K-byte x 2) or the Standard Disk

--Syste~n X-8330 (1M-by-te~'-0) C"ii beused with the CX-l as external cllskdrives.Disk data files and devices are handledas logical files by the CX-l 's filemanagement system. This total systemconsistancy allows integrated systemflexibility. ISAM (Indexed SequentialAccess Method) utility facilitates high-speed search. addition, or deletion of oataitems. The storage units and file management

vstern greaJly increase tne speed.accuracy, and ease of processing bulkinformation.

Versatne Hardware FxpandaoilityThe CX-1 has six interface portsdesigned to amplify system capability.Three ports are for V-24/RS-232C IIF,one for a Centronics I/F, one for a GP-IBIIF, and another for optional deviceconnection. There is also a connector foran external floppy disk system and onefor an optional light pen. All of theseinterfaces and connectors are integratedinternally in the CX-l so !Ioat all you haveto do is plug the peripherals directly intothe CX-l.This all-in-one concept plus peripheralinterface capability and consistant filemanagement make il easy to realize asystem to fit your needs.
