Good Question!

Why is the south road at Indy blocked off?

The reasons for closing down the south road are: #3. All the dust that gets kick up.

#2. We just spent a lot of money installing irrigation lines on the south side and they run right up to the road. We can’t afford to have anyone drive over them.

#1. The most important reason is safety. With the speeding traffic on it we have had to many close calls with kids and cars.

Congratulations once again to the 94’ Celtic Black team for their excellent run in the State Cup. This team has been together since U13’s under Coach Drew Crawford and is continuously in the hunt for that ultimate prize. Here is how they’ve finished:

Tryout Dates…

Last year MSYSA made the decision to move tryouts from the traditional June 15th start date to June 12th. The logic behind that decision was to have tryouts start on Saturday; the flaw with that decision was that we lost a weekend of play for the spring sea-son. So this year they have decided to go back to the original date of June 15th. This summer June 15th is on a Wednesday which puts us right back in the original problem.

Notes from the Directors Chair!

Well it is hard to believe the Fall season is already behind us, it seems like yesterday we were just finalizing teams and preparing for team camps. Now we already have over 250 players signed up for our winter programs and we are preparing for spring tournaments including our very own Canton Cup!

So before the year gets completely away from us and we find ourselves preparing for the 2011/2012 year I think we need to step back and take a look at some of the things that we at the CSC have been trying to do to make Canton Celtic a pro-gram that all of our members can be proud of!

Many of you participated in a survey that we made available to all of our parents at the end of last season and through the tryouts. First of all if you did take the time to fill out the survey I want to thank you for providing us with some excellent feed-back on items you like and your concerns. Second I want to assure you that each survey was read and we have already taken steps to address some of the most “popular” concerns.

As you know the survey was broke down per team and per coach and the first thing that I did was discuss the results of the survey with each coach so they un-derstood what was on the minds of the parents. As the survey was anonymous we were able to discuss common themes so no one should be concerned that any names were or could have been shared with their respective coach. I think this made it easier for many of you to be honest in your responses. This in itself was a great learning tool for many of our coaches as they truly got to understand how parents perceive them.

I also understand that many of you have not been overly happy with the evalua-tion process. Because of that we have decided to team up with an online evalu-ation company called Zoom Reports. The first evaluation your child will receive using the Zoom Reports system will be the first one following this falls season, In fact by the time many of you read this you may have already received the Fall report.

As you know over the past three years we have also been trying to offer many unique winter programs for our players to participate in if they wish to do so. We have offered programs such as Futsal, SAQ, Celtic Touch etc… Well in the survey many of you requested a finishing or shooting program so this year we decided to offer a striker/keeper program (as you can’t have shooting without goalkeeping).

In the end I just want all of you to be aware that we do value your input and we do try our best to improve the Celtic Program based on that input. Sometimes those changes take time so let me just end with a sincere request to please con-tact me anytime either by email or phone if you have a question, a concern, an issue, or would like to share a suggestion that you think may help us continue to grow as a club.

Looking forward to seeing all of you sometime this winter at High Velocity.

GO CELTIC!Peter Alexander

Everyone should have received an email invitation for his or her online player evaluation account. If you did not, please contact your coach. Zoom Reports is a power-ful tool in the development of the player. As coaches, we all did our evaluations differently. Some rated (or ranked) their players based on that team, some by all of the players within the club at that age group, others by the division they play in or by all teams in that age group. This makes it hard when a player goes from one coach to another and I’m sure as supportive par-ents you are often saying, “each coach does them differently.”

Going forward, coaches are instructed to evalu-ate players based on their team, which will hopefully bring some consistency on how evaluations are scored. Although this system won’t be perfect, it will be a work in progress and it’s definitely a step in the right direction. Zoom Reports will track the player’s entire history with the club and will hopefully give the player, the parents and your future coach im-portant information on the development of the player.

Please allow coaches some added time to get through this first evaluation, as it will take them added time to setup and learn the system. Thank you to Ian Jones for spearheading this project, we hope everyone likes it.

Three Celtic Teams Head to Scotlandby Pete Alexander

As many of you know we had a team from Scotland come and compete in last years Canton Cup. It was a great experience for both the visiting team and for all of us involved with helping them get here.

As a way to keep that relationship going we are sending 3 Celtic teams over to Scotland to compete in a series of friendly games and to learn about the rich heritage of one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Did you know that Scotland is the birth place of both Golf and Soccer?

The teams will not only play against Scottish teams but will have a unique opportunity to watch at least one SPL match (Scottish Premier League) and if all goes well that match will be an SPL Cup semi-final featuring Glasgow Celtic! They will train with members of the SFA (Scot-tish Football Association) which is similar to our own USSF (United States Soccer Federation). The trip will also be loaded with cultural experiences the boys will remember for the rest of their lives.

The trip of course will not be cheap and the group has a goal to raise $1000.00 per player and many of you have already taken part in some of those fundraising efforts such as the end of camp picnic, the continuous bottle drives or even the bowling fundraiser. The group truly ap-preciates everyone who has been involved but it is impor-tant that all Celtic teams, players and parents understand that none of these fundraisers are mandatory for anyone not going on the trip. I only say that because I don’t want anyone feeling obligated to participate when they may not be able to or have the means to.

Having said that we will continue to let you know what this group is planning through either emails or website postings as many of you have asked to be kept in the loop.

New Irrigation System Installedby John Staub

The CSC Executive board and Canton Leisure Services agreed to invest in an irrigation system for the soccer fields at the south side of the Independence Park. This new irri-gation system is part of our capitol improvements from the proceeds of the Canton Cup Tournament. You will notice the new well near the south edge of the parking lot that will provide the water for the entire playing fields on the south side of the park. With the irrigation system in place we can expect to see an improved playing surface in the coming years.

Did you miss out on the first session programs such as Futsal, Keeper/Striker Camp or Celtic Touch?

If so, we will be offering the following programs during Session II (Jan-Feb): • Futsal • Step-Fast (S.A.Q. Training)

Maybe it should be “corners” since there are two. Actually that would make it an endline …or sideline. Anyway, you get the idea.

Tryouts (From Pg 1)In the meantime, A group of club DOC’s have petitioned the state to move the tryouts to June 18th which in our opin-ion solves both dilemmas.

The problem now is that MSYSA can not let us know if the change can be accepted until their AGM in February. So to help our members work around this and plan their summer vacations we would like everyone to keep June 15th through June 19th booked for potential tryouts. We believe that whichever date is actually chosen we will have our tryouts completed by Sunday June 19th. Of course as soon as we are made aware of MSYSA’s final decision we will pass that along to all of our members.

Canton Cup registration - Online Registration is open. Visit www.cantoncup.net to register your team. We request all Celtic teams to register by January 1st. Man-agers - make sure to consult with your coach regarding any conflicts and/or special requests.

HVS is now taking registration WITHOUT a deposit for Winter 2 teams. $200 is due December 17th, however if you would like to guarantee your team a spot, we recom-mend registering early. Tournament Reimbursement Max Raised - You may have noticed that I’ve updated the form to reflect the maximum limit for reimbursement has been raised to $600. This could include any fees such as permission to travel, parking, etc.

Changing of the Board - We have some new faces coming on board (literally) this January. Jim Harkins will be the new Select Representative, replacing John O’Meara this January. Joe Stevens is taking over the Premier Representative position as Rick Caron is step-ping down. We will email you contact information in the near future.

If you don’t have a site and want one, you can have a free site on Blue Sombrero However I warn you. It’s not as easy to administer as some of these other sites and I’d say it’s not for the novice computer person. Please email Dan McEvilly at [email protected] for more information.
