EVERY COMPONENT OF THIS VALVE HAS BEEN CAREFULLYDESIGNED TO DELIVER MAXIMUM SAFETY, RELIABILITY,

EASE OF OPERATION AND LONG SERVICE LIFE.

1 THE BALLThe Velan design uses a fullround ball, with two seatingsurfaces. It's as if every valvecame with a spare ball.

2 THE SEATThe Stellite 6 seat is reversible.Just turn it over and you have aspare seat to go with the spareball surface. Compare this toconventional one-sided seats.

3 THE SPRINGSThe key to long service life isstrong ball-lifting force, to preventchips and fines from lodgingbetween the ball and the seat. TheVelan capping valve uses heavybar springs to do the lifting.These simple, reliable springsapply substantial, adjustment-freeforce directly to the ball. In fact,the lifting force is so reliable thatthe valve can be closed on chipsin case of acci-dental overfilling.No lost time!

4 THE BODYThe valve body is side-split, notcenter-split, so it can use acircular, uninterrupted spiral-wound gasket, secured in place bya capture groove.

5 THE PACKINGPacking is pure braided Teflon,with an adjustable gland and adeep stuffing box. There is nocantilever ball-lifting, so nosideways force on the shaft. Ourgland has a history of zeroleakage.

6 THE TRUNNION BEARINGS

Stellited trunnion bearings aresemi-circular, and their cornersare left sharp to scrape thetrunnions clean. Please note, fast-wearing plastic bearings are“NOT” used.

7 THE LOWER FLANGE

The extra-thick lower flange iscustom-drilled, with a tongue ifneeded, to match your existingdigester necks. Extra-large lowerflanges can also be provided. Wehave no limitation on the size ofthe ball versus the size of thelower flange.

8 THE BOSSESWe provide two cast-in bosses forthe mounting of safety pressureswitches and/or digester pressuremeasurement instruments.

9 THE ACTUATORThe actuator can be eitherpneumatic or electric, speciallyequipped with safety provisionsto prevent accidental opening.Interlocks and torque-limiting arebuilt into a three-part safetysystem.

10 NO ADJUSTMENTNECESSARY

All Velan capping valve parts areeasy to install. Correct pressure isalways applied between the balland the seat by bar springdeflection when the body cover is bolted to the body. Noadjustment and no factory expertsneeded!

11 EASY IN-PLACEMAINTENANCE

The Velan capping valve is easy totake apart and reassemble, evenwhile on the digester. The valve'sfew components are fully exposedwhen the top cover is removed.

12 SIMPLEAbove all, the Velan design issimple — an importantconsideration for valves used tohandle wood chips. The onlymoving parts are the ball and itsassembled shaft.
