Our Supplier ACE program combined with our Sustainability Goals enable us to fully leverage our approach and ensure that performance and responsibility go hand in hand in every aspect of our operations.

Everywhere we do business, we measure success with the same set of financial, operational, ethical, and environmental and safety metrics. Each area has key performance indicators (KPIs), which help us measure and report on our performance.

EnvironmentThe driving force behind UTC’s environment, health and safety (EH&S) goals is the belief that our workplaces should be free from all hazards and that the environmental impact of our products, factories and suppliers should be minimized and, where possible, eliminated. Since our first EH&S goals were established in 1991, United Technologies has improved employee health and safety, significantly reduced hazardous waste and air emissions, and reduced the environmental impact of our products.

Our record of performance has positioned UTC to confidently set aggressive new 2015 Sustainability Goals. These new goals build on our history and include additional challenges that reflect the continuing evolution of our program. The goals raise the bar across every facet of our operations, from safety to environmental management. They will be measured against the 2006 baseline to show continuity and progress. The goals were developed in collaboration with business unit management and approved by UTC’s Board of Directors.

Supplier Environment, Health and SafetyOur global supplier EH&S initiative ensures that 100 percent of all identified key and critical suppliers meet UTC’s EH&S five minimum expectations. The program is a joint effort between EH&S and supply management.

Suppliers must:

• Provide safe working conditions for all employees, customers and contractors • Adhere to all applicable national, regional, state, and local laws and regulations governing EH&S

practices • Operate in a manner that minimizes environmental impacts • Limit use of natural resources and promote sustainable natural resource practices • Extend and communicate these EH&S requirements to their suppliers.

The global scope of our operations gives us the opportunity to affect the performance of thousands of businesses around the world. UTC Fire & Security (UTCFS) has a long-standing commitment to market-leading brands including Interlogix, Lenel and Onity.

UTCFS are the supplier of security products to the product distribution and security installation industry in Australia. These products include residential and commercial alarms, access control and CCTV systems.

Tecom (Hardware)

The Challenger SystemThe proven solution for access control, intrusion detection, and video integration.

The Challenger integrated alarm and access control panel, first released to the security industry in 1989, is widely accepted as a versatile, quality, Australian-made product. Challenger’s customisable design makes it the benchmark for alarm and access control systems. Interlogix has been constantly upgrading the capabilities of Challenger and its modular product family to further adapt the product to real-life, ever-changing applications.

The Challenger alarm and access control panel is the heart and soul of the system, with its modular ‘Add As You Go’ design. Challenger allows expansion and control of the system with a range of ancillary panels, controllers, readers, and LAN devices. Suitable for locations with special needs, Challenger is used in universities, financial institutions, chain stores, supermarkets, and prisons, to name only a few. In addition, many Challengers are used to secure homes and small businesses.

Challenger is flexible. Its modular design provides for an amazingly wide range of applications, depending on the number of ‘building-blocks’ you need to add. Start with just a few access doors and alarm inputs, or expand it to control thousands of doors, inputs, and users. Built-in alarm reporting allows Challenger to automatically report to a remote location any change of state for every programmed input, door, field controller — or in fact any device on the encrypted LAN — every day. What’s more, Challenger can connect directly to a printer from its own optional interface without needing a dedicated PC or network.

The Challenger uses all standard industry-reporting formats and media, hence, High Speed Digital Dialler, Direct Line, Securitel, and IP are all supported.

Forcefield Management SoftwareForcefield security management server software is a multi-tasking and multi-operator platform, capable of controlling up to 1,024 Challenger panels (and up to 128 simultaneous connections) from a single computer running the ‘industrial strength’ QNX operating system.

The QNX Server is a true multi-tasking Real Time Operating System (RTOS), designed to be deterministic (the input determines the output, thereby saving processing time). The QNX Server can process thousands of events simultaneously at high speed. The graphical user interface supports real-time dynamic graphics in the alarm handling facility, with 4-stage map zooming.

• Advanced event-triggering logic, user and card management, alarm monitoring.

• Event Driven Protocol for reduced network bandwidth.

• Real Time graphics. • Native Ethernet communications to the

Challenger system(s). • Native CCTV and Matrix Switcher interfaces. • Suitable for installations with a very high

number of transactions, typically more than 5000 events per day.

• FORCEFIELD databases are segregated to enable the allocation of functions, alarm panels, and databases by operator, PC operator terminal, and printer. This provides enormous system configuration flexibility and database security.

• All system transactions are logged and can be retrieved for viewing, printing, and generating reports. Complete database storage facilities provide for simple backup, archiving, and retrieval of files.

• Access by Operators for system management is via the Windows environment taking advantage of the latest Windows multi media services available including video streaming and multi monitor operation up to 8 off a single PC.

Security Commander was installed at Cardinia Shire Council in Melbourne, which sprawls across multiple suburbs and comprise dozens of large and small community facilities.
