Independence Day Celebrations

The High Commission of India, Lilongwe celebrated the 72nd Independence Day of India on 15th Au-gust 2018. The programme began by hoisting of the Indian Flag by the High Commissioner which was followed by the singing of the Indian National An-them. A cultural dance troupe from the State of Ra-jasthani performed a variety of Indian songs and dance which was followed by members of the Indian community who sang patriotic songs. The pro-gramme concluded with a Yoga demonstration by Teacher of Indian Culture. The Indian National Day was marked by an evening reception at the High Commissioner’s residence. The Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Bright Msaka (MP) was Guest of Honor and Head of Missions, the Diplomatic Community and members of International Organizations graced the occasion.

Gandhi 150th Birth Anniversary

ITEC Day was celebrated on September 29, 2018 at the High Commission of India premises. Hon. Nich-olas Dausi, Former Minister of Infromation and Communications Technology was the Guest of Hon-our. Over 100 ITEC Alumni patronized the event and shared experiences of their capacity building in India, a number of ITEC alumni gave speeches en-tailing the lessons learnt and how such knowledge and skills can be translated towards fostering development in Malawi.

The High Commission of India, Lilongwe hosted a function on 2nd October 2018 to celebrate Gandhi 150th Birth Anniversary. The celebration was pre-sided over by Hon’ble Grace Chiumia, Minister of Civic Education, Culture and Community Develop-ment, Government of Malawi as Guest of Honour. During the event, the winners of the painting com-petition organized by the High Commission on 23rd September 2018 were handed over prizes by the Guest of Honour.

Visit to Malawi (4-5 November 2018)

Hon'ble Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu visited Malawi from 4-5 November 2018. The Vice President addressed the Indian and dias-pora community during Indian community event on 4 November 2018.During the State House visit on 5 November 2018, Hon. Vice President of India met H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi. On the occasion of the visit, the two Governments signed three (3) Agree-ments on Extradition Treaty, Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Officials Passports and an MoU) on Capacity Building in Regulating the Mining of Radio-Active/Atomic Materials and Rare Earths.

The Vice President also addressed India-Malawi Business Meet on 5 November 2018 where he un-veiled the plaques for the Business Incubation Center as well as the India Africa Institute for Ag-riculture and Rural Development (IAIARD).

Hon'ble Vice President launched the "India for Hu-manity" initiative with Malawi on 5 November 2018. He handed over two artificial limbs to Mala-wian beneficiaries & inaugurated one-month workshop set up to fix 500 artificial limbs pre-pared by the world-renowned Jaipur Foot Technol-ogy.

Jaipur Foot Limb Fitment Camp

The High Commission of India in coordination with the Ministry of Disabilty and the Ministry of Health jointly organized the Jaipur Foot Limb Fitment Camp which was run by technicians from Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayta Samiti (BMVSS). The camp run from 21st November 2018 to 21st Decem-ber 2018; within this period 551 artificial limbs were produced and handed over to 506 beneficiaries.
