CAPACITY EXPANSION EHP FOR NESTLÉ At the Nestlé factory in Nunspeet baby food products and semi manufac- tured products - such as vitamin mixes with trace elements - are produced for use within this factory and other Nestlé factories. Nunspeet is the only location in the world where Nestlé produces specialties for babies. Among these specialties you find lactose free baby food, baby food for infants with milk protein allergy and food supplements for premature- ly born infants. The last two product categories belong to the so-called Extensive Hydrolysed Products (EHP), for which Nestlé has a dedicated production line. CAPACITY EXPANSION Nestlé Nunspeet and Agidens have been working together successfully for a number of years. In 2005 Agidens has built a new baby food factory fully according to the wishes and needs of Nestlé Nunspeet. During the past years Agidens has regularly changed and expanded existing installations at Nestlé. In 2008 for example Agidens delivered and started up a new CIP installation. Because of a growing demand for baby food specialties, the production capacity of the EHP installation had to be expanded. For this project Nestlé chose to cooperate again with Agidens: in June 2011 the project took off. CHALLENGES Safeguarding quality and continuity within the relative short time in which the project had to be carried out was the biggest challenge when it came to the capacity expansion. There were only a few short foreseen stops in which the existing production had to go on. For export of the products to the United States, the EHP installation had to comply with the strict requirements which are stated by the American Food and Drugs Administration FDA. CAPACITY EXPANSION EHP FOR NESTLÉ

At the Nestlé factory in Nunspeet baby food products and semi manufac-tured products - such as vitamin mixes with trace elements - are produced for use within this factory and other Nestlé factories. Nunspeet is the only location in the world where Nestlé produces specialties for babies. Among these specialties you find lactose free baby food, baby food for infants with milk protein allergy and food supplements for premature-ly born infants. The last two product categories belong to the so-called Extensive Hydrolysed Products (EHP), for which Nestlé has a dedicated production line.

CAPACITY EXPANSIONNestlé Nunspeet and Agidens have been working together successfully for a number of years.

CHALLENGESSafeguarding quality and continuity within the relative short time in which the project had to be carried out was the biggest challenge when it came to the capacity expansion. There were only a few short foreseen stops in which the existing production had to go on. For export of the products to the United States, the EHP installation had to comply with the strict requirements which are stated by the American Food and Drugs Administration FDA.

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

» Process engineering » Supplying the mechanical components » I/O-tests, SAT and stand-by in testruns » Supplying and placing platforms » Electrical engineering » Elektrical panels » Software engineering (PLC, SCADA, Batch and linking to MES) » Elektrical installation work » Mechanical assembly and pip-ing systems » Documentation » Validation according to the FDA » CE » Project management

1.PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

» Nestlé is a worldwide active enterprise and has his own stan-dards; the project has to be carried out in compliance with these standards.

» It has to be able to change the recipes and production capacity at all times. Integrating flexibility within the automation is nec-essary.

» With regard to the statutory laws and legislation within the food industry, the systems need to safeguard the possibility of track-ing & tracing.

» To be able to serve the American market the installation has to be FDA validated.

» A production stop has to be prevented as much as possible (or in exceptional cases minimalized). A service department which can be reached 24 hours a day and 7 days a week is therefore indispensable.

2.THE PROGRESSThe project is carried out - also thanks to the good cooperation with the production and engineering department of Nestlé Nun-speet - to full satisfaction of all parties. The project started in June 2011 and was finished in June 2012. In two short stops (respec-tively in October 2011 and March 2012) of only two and three weeks the old installations were taken out, the new installations were placed and started up.

3.RESULTSThe production capacity of the EHP-installation is tripled. Flexibility is integrated within the automation and the possibility of tracking & tracing is safeguarded. The EHP-installation is FDA validated, by which Nestlé Nunspeet can serve more markets. The factory is in addition further automated; as a result less work has to be done by hand.

WHY AGIDENS?The cooperation with Agidens offers - aside from the satisfaction of the previous delivered services - the following advantages:

» Agidens exists over 60 years, by which continuity is safeguarded;

» Besides expertise in the area of software, Agidens also has spe-cialists in the area of electrical engineering, process knowledge, project management, etc.;

» The electrical activities mostly take place under the responsibility of Agidens, to make sure that Nestlé Nunspeet only has one single point of contact;

» The service department of Agidens can be reached 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
