WELCOME LETTER

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to Cape Town, South Africa to celebrate the 41st Annual Meeting of the International Urogynecological Association.

This will undoubtedly be the premier urogynecological meeting of the year. In order to meet this goal, the programme committee along with the help of the local organizing committee has structured a unique blend of stimulating science and varied social activities.

Our hosts, Peter de Jong and Stephen Jeffery (Local Organizing Committee Co-Chairs), along with their colleagues and the IUGA Programme Committee led by Ranee Thakar, have included over 20 workshops, 18 mini state of the art lectures, 5 special lectures, and 1 live surgery session. The IUGA Scientific Committee led by Dudley Robinson will select the best and most interesting abstracts from the hundreds submitted in order to formulate very enticing and stimulating scientific sessions.

The meeting is timely for all our members including surgeons, physical- and physio-therapists and specialist nurses. For example we are keenly aware of the recent controversies in the surgical management of incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse and the increase in pelvic floor trauma resulting from childbirth. Much of the data to be presented will provide updates as well as guidance for patient care.

South Africa is a great tourism destination, voted Time Magazine’s “25 Trips to Take in Your Lifetime’. There will be plenty for you and accompanying persons to do and see and I encourage you to spend a few extra days to appreciate the natural wonders of South Africa.

I look forward to welcoming you all in Cape Town for this our 41st, annual meeting; like last year it should be excellent.

Warmest Regards,

Professor Bob FreemanPresident

WELCOME LETTER FROM HOSTS

We look forward to hosting you during the 41st Annual Meeting in the breathtaking city of Cape Town, South Africa, named #9 on Travel + Leisure Magazine World’s Best Cities list. Stunning views of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans combined with urbane cuisine and a scientific meeting that will focus on an array of topics will surely make the 41st annual meeting unforgettable.

This year’s scientific meeting offers a robust educational program and networking events that will provide you the opportunity to connect with internationally-respected experts in the field of urogynecology. Topics will be dedicated to women’s pelvic floor dysfunction including expertise of gynecologists, urologists, neurologists, colorectal surgeons, pain specialists and rehabilitation physicians. Multidisciplinary discussions will be promoted and the program committee is well underway in selecting the speakers. We have included a small sample of what to expect this year:

• Mini state-of-the-art lectures at the end of every session, which will tie into the theme of that particular session.

• Meet the Experts Roundtable Breakfast. • The ever popular roundtables sessions and two state of the art lectures from leading

world experts in the scientific field.• The IUGA Exhibit Hall, displaying innovative products and services. • Global networking opportunities with your peers and more!

The workshop committee has finalized the workshop program and as of this writing, the scientific committee will be reviewing abstracts shortly. You can review this year’s workshop offerings on page 9 of this program for the variety of workshops being offered.

No IUGA meeting is complete without our social events. This year will be no different! The Friday night dinner will be held at the Lookout, and we promise you, you will not want to miss out on our traditional sit down dinner and dancing with a few surprises.

Be sure to book accommodations as soon as possible to guarantee a room. With so many reasons to attend this year’s meeting, the hotels will be filling up fast. For more information on hotels, please visit our website at www.iugameeting.org and click on accommodations.

Be sure to plan a few extra days for a holiday either before or after the meeting. There’s something for everyone, so it’s the perfect destination for a relaxing family vacation or a romantic getaway. We look forward to seeing you in Cape Town!

ABOUT CAPE TOWNCape Town is the quintessential melting pot: it is a city alive with creativity, colour, sounds and tastes.

While walking through the city’s streets and meeting its people, you will fall in love with its natural beauty, creative freedom and incredible spirit. Cape Town is a city where the unexpected is always just around the corner and the beautiful province of the Western Cape lies ready to be explored across the city border.

Accommodation is available to suit all tastes and budgets, from luxury five star establishments to modest guesthouses and bed and breakfasts. These have been pre-booked for the Congress and delegates will be able to secure their choice of venue at preferential rates through the Congress organisers.

A wide range of attractive tours and excursions will be on offer to visitors and these will be of a cultural, historical and geographical nature. From townships to wildlife reserves, shopping malls to vineyards, there will be something to delight everyone.

We encourage you to participate on one of the arranged optional excursions. The experience will be unforgettable.
