NOW IS THE TIME TO MOVE FORWARD IN FAITH

In 1997, our founders put forth a vision of a high school that would inspire leaders

with a mind toward Christ. Just fourteen years later, Houston Christian stands strong

as a premier high school in Houston. We are a place that challenges the intellect

within the framework of a Christian world view and encourages students to develop

their distinctive gifts in the areas of academics, athletics, spirituality, leadership, and

the visual and performing arts.

Having achieved our founders’ goal of 500 students, our enrollment demands that

we move our campus master plan another step forward. This calls for construction of

a new student center and a Center for Scholars and Leaders. These two buildings

will provide space for collaborative learning and address immediate needs for

additional classrooms, food service and dining. The plan also calls for facility

enhancements for athletics and the performing arts.

The Forward in Faith Campaign seeks to raise $12.5 million to make these plans a

reality. The completion of these buildings will put Houston Christian at the forefront

of learning and technology and further expose our students to an exceptional

educational environment that will boldly prepare them for their future pursuits.

Our journey continues. Please join us as we move Forward in Faith and invest in

the future of our children and prepare them to impact this world through

leadership and faith.

STUDENT CENTER

A three-story, approximately 35,000 square foot student center will be a powerful force for student interaction by effectively integrating library services, technology, cafeteria and classrooms in a learning commons that is now only seen at colleges and universities. The center will:

• Convert the traditional library into a learning commons with a technologically progressive hub.

• Provide an informal gathering area with coffee bar for the school community and seating for 120.

• Accommodate a food preparation/service area and cafeteria seating for approximately 170 students.

• Connect to the McNair Gymnasium providing direct access to restrooms.

• Create eight additional classrooms and a custom designed six-room Discovery program suite.

PERFORMING ARTS

An important aspect of the project is to repurpose the classrooms in the Drake Performing Arts Center (DPAC). Classes currently held in the DPAC, which are not fine arts, will move to the second floor of the student center. As a result, these classrooms will be re-modeled to provide:

• Individual practice rooms

• Men’s and ladies’ dressing rooms for theatre

• Small group rehearsal rooms

• Music classroom

• Video and Audio recording studio

• Offices

CAPITAL FUNDING HIGHLIGHTS

The objectives for a capital campaign address immediate and critical needs for classroom space, facilities for food service, athletics and performing arts, and areas for collaborative learning with state-of-the-art technology.

• Construct a student center with dining facilities, classrooms, and a learning commons integrating library services and technology.

• Transform the library into a state-of-the-art center with lecture hall and collaborative conference areas for Passport to Lead and Distinguished Scholars Programs.

• Complete the Drake Performing Arts center by renovating current classrooms into practice rooms, an audio-video recording studio, dressing rooms, and rehearsal space.

CENTER FOR SCHOLARS AND LEADERS

By transferring library services into the new student center learning commons, the Amelang Library building is now the Center for Scholars and Leaders which includes:

• A grand lecture hall with seating for approximately 145 students.

• Two conference-style classrooms.

• Facilities to house the Distinguished Scholars and Passport to Lead programs.

• Break-out areas with functional architecture, AV integration and furniture that promote creativity and collaboration.

• To fulfill the vision of servant-leadership training and community impact, the Center for Scholars and Leaders is also available for use by the public for after-hours.
