• Like the preterite, the imperfect is used to talk about an act that has already occurred. However, the imperfect focuses on the continuation of an act in progress rather than on the completed act:1. Repeated habitual

Cuando era estudiante de secundaria vivíamos en San José. Era estudiante en el Colegio La Salle. Estudiaba mucho, no faltaba a mis clases y hacía mis tareas a tiempo; siempre sacaba buenas calificaciones. Jugaba al fútbol para el equipo del colegio y hacía mis quehaceres en casa. Pero más que nada me gustaba pasar los fines de semana acampando con mis amigos en los parques nacionales.

to travel → traveled

• In Spanish, past participles are formed by adding –ado to the stem of –ar verbs, and –ido to the stem of –er and –ir verbs.
