How Long Can I Work/Travel?You are permitted to work in the USA for 4 months and travel for further 30 days. *Do not confuse this program with more expensive 12-month programs that are aimed at mature students and require a postponement of studies in order for you to be eligible. You can travel on Summer Work and Travel program J-1 visa to the US several times, whereas 12-month Work/Travel program will only allow you to do this once.

How Much Will It Cost?FAQ: I was told by my friends that the Summer Work and Travel program costs nothing. Why would people say that? How is it possible? Answer: It's really simple, and technically speaking your friends are right. The program funds itself. Additionally, the wage level that the students are paid on this summer working holiday job in the US is enough so that the students can end the working term with a positive bank bal-ance (provided of course that they do not overspend while in the US). Please see the explanation below: In the UK, students pay the Program Participation Fees, which vary from the minimum of £425 to the maximum of £575, depending on the program type of their choice, plus the flight expenses, which rarely exceed £350. Therefore, the total initial expenditure for you would vary between £800 and £925. Once in the US, students placed in jobs by CAPSE/CCI begin earning money once they ar-rive to the job location and check-in with the employer. With CAPSE/CCI guaranteed jobs placement the students waste no time searching for a job when arrive to the US! Average job wages: USD350 a week, Program duration: 12-17 weeks. You do the maths! With this basis, the students are able to completely cover their initial expenses within, roughly speaking, 4 weeks after their arrival to the USA. And that is even before the over-time and the second job option earnings. Due to the current USD/GBP exchange rate being so favourable this year (unfortunate news for the bankers and the currency traders but great news for you!), you will actually have more money earned in terms of GB pounds than the students in previous years. This should allow you to save more money this summer and then use your US earnings when you get back to the UK. More good news is that all international students working to the US for less than a year are eligible for the tax refund. With our TAXBACK service, our students will get all their taxes that they would initially pay in the USA returned quickly when they come back to the UK after filling in all the required forms and applications, which we aslo will provide the stu-dents with. Feel free to check out our Benefits and Extras page. Once you have registered with CAPSE online, you will be able to log-in to the CCI online job board to surf through the list of available vacancies and do the Budget Sheet calculation yourself. We believe, this is the most likely reason why so many students say that the Summer Work and Travel Program/trip costs nothing.

Money MattersLast, but not least... What to do with the money earned in the US during the Summer Work and Travel program that are left in your pocket/bank account after your personal spending? Cover your Student Account bank overdraft, if you used this facility to pay the Program Par-ticipation Fee and/or for your flight from the UK to the US Spend on travelling within the US during your 30-day grace period (e.g. Hawaii, Florida, New York, LA, etc.) Spend on holiday outside of the US (e.g. Cuba, Caribbean, Brazil, Argentina, Europe, to name a few) Buy presents for your parents, friends and university professors Save Do all of the above The choice is yours!

Obtaining Your J-1 VisaFAQ: Do I need a Visa if I'm a British passport holder? Answer: Yes. Students of every nationality require J-1 Visa to be able to enter the US as a cultural exchange visitor. FAQ: How to apply? Answer: In the US Embassy in London. CAPSE UK will assist you with your application and pro-vide you with all the documents that you will need to take to the embassy to get your J-1 Visa. J-1 Visa mystery revealed The Exchange Visitor (J1) Visa is a temporary Non-immigrant Visa which allows a foreign employee to be actively engaged in on the job training under circumstances equivalent to that of an American employee in the same situation. The United States government issues J-1 Visas to individuals who take part in a wide range of exchange visitor programs sponsored by schools, businesses, and a variety of organiza-tions and institutions. These programs are envisioned for business and industrial trainees, scholars, students, international visitors, teachers, research assistants, and those on cultural missions. In addition, there are several exchange visitor programs for young people, includ-ing summer employment programs, internship programs for university students and au-pair programs. The aim of these programs is to encourage people of other countries to travel to America to participate in educational and cultural exchanges in order to increase mutual understanding between countries. Once a J1 Visa has been granted, the visa holder is allowed to enter America and remain for the duration of their exchange program. The J1 Visa is available for: Foreign medical graduates or physicians undertaking graduate medical education or training; Au Pairs; Students participating in exchange programs (secondary and college/university); Research scholars; Pursuing business and industrial training programs; Professors; Research assistants; Summer work/travel; Foreign nationals who are recognized as potential leaders or experts to engage in observation tours, discussions, consultation, professional meetings, and training; Organisations authorised by the Department of State (DOS) to sponsor foreign nationals for training.

The applicant must be accepted as a participant in an American exchange program and be able to satisfy the basic visa requirements as well as the specific requirements and regula-tions each category of exchange requires. The basic requirements for applicants are: They plan to remain in America for a temporary, specific, limited period; They hold a valid passport; They have been offered an exchange program placement through a designated sponsoring organisation; They must be able to meet all qualifying criteria for the exchange program they have entered into; They have sufficient funds to cover expenses in America; Intend to return to their country of nationality at the end of the program.
