President’s Notes

Well, it’s September and it’s easy to tell with increased traffic in town and all the folks taking their kids back to school these days. So, a reminder to be cautious in school zones and around Tech, LCU and Wayland.Even though it is September there are some great events lined up for the month. Mike will supply the details on most, but please put two on your calendar. Big Wheels Deliver Meals on September 16th, they always need more drivers and helpers for that annual event and it’s fun morning and really gives their clients a thrill for the day.Next, our annual ‘delayed’ birthday party at AIM bank on September 24th. Aim provides the meat and we provide the ‘cooker’ and other items, including cake to make for a fun day.Celebrate Today should be involved to help raise funds to help Southwest Cancer center of UMC help their patients. As most of you know, our club ordered a banner with our logo on it to be displayed at the grand opening of the Mustang Museum. Below is an article about the groundbreaking ceremony.Several of us in the club had lunch for former members Laura and Jim Hamlet who were in town for a few weeks. Our condolences to Jim on the loss of his mother. They were long time members and now live in the far north, U-P of Wisconsin (see picture below).Keep those in mind and please join us Thursday Sept 1st(First) at Red Zone café at our monthly meeting.John

Mustang Museum Groundbreaking

The Ground Breaking Ceremony was the first step to making the Mustang Owner's Museum a reality. A number of people made the comment "It is happening....."

The Friday Night Banquet provided the attendees the opportunity of viewing eight great Mustangs and memorabilia dating back to 1964. The highlight of the evening was the presentation from Giuliano Zuccato, one of the clay modeler's making the Mustang into reality. Giuliano charmed the audience with stories regarding Lee Iaccoca and other members of Team Mustang, along with the tools he used to model the clay.

The following day the the attendees gathered at 60 Pitts School Rd. to view the Ground Breaking Ceremony starting at 2PM.

With officials from Cabarrus County and Concord, NC, along with Mustang Museum team, including the Regional Carolina Mustang Club, the first turns of dirt announced the beginning of the Museum Mustang Owner's have been patiently waiting for way too long. The local newspaper provided, within hours of the completion of the ceremony an online accounting of the event.

The Supporter Brick program has had a tremendous start with over 200 Bricks already ordered. Remember the first 500 Bricks will be part of the display in front of the Museum and those ordering will be invited to the Brick Laying event next year. Be sure to be part of this special Museum event by ordering your Mustang Museum Supporter Brick now.

Click here for information as to the types of bricks-sizes and designs, along with pricing.

Please contact Steve at [email protected] if you have any questions about the Brick program.

This email is being sent to the Friends of the Museum, so they have the first opportunity to order a brick. The opportunity to order Supporter Bricks will be open to all Mustang enthusiasts on August 15th.

Mike's Thoughts

You are receiving this newsletter on Wednesday, August 31st, so that means the monthly membership meeting is tomorrow, Thursday, September 1st. Don’t let it sneak past you.

It’s September and summer is gone but there are still a lot of events coming up. Check them all out on the “Coming Events” page of the web site. Two are of special interest to us, the CCCC Cruise to Lamesa on the 17th and our Mustang Birthday Party on the 24th (see the flyers below)

The cruise attracts a wide variety of cars from all the clubs in Lubbock and others who come up from farther south to meet in Forest Park in Lamesa. The Caprock folks provide a great Hamburger meal in exchange for a donation to the Texas Boys Ranch. Bring a dessert and your own drinks. Meet at Kohl’s parking lot (98th & Indiana) at 9 am. They leave promptly at 9:30. This is a fun cruise and a lot of Mustangs usually go.

Our Birthday party is usually held in April, the month the Mustang was initially released in 1964. This year, we had to cancel due to weather and now we will hold the celebration on

September 24th. It’s at the Aimbank on Slide and from 10 am to 2 pm. We provide lunch to everyone who brings out a Mustang and birthday cake, too. For you new members, this is a really fun event you should check out. It’s a show & shine (no entry fee) and your car doesn’t have to be in perfect condition. It’s only four hours and you get a free lunch. You can’t beat that! In addition, we will be raising funds for Celebrate Today, an outreach of the Southwest Cancer Center.

Lastly, keep October 8th on your calendars. We will cruise up to Floydada for their annual Pumpkin Fest and Car Show. It’s a great celebration with tons of stuff to do for all ages. We hope to be able to see Don Hardy’s collection of classic cars and his Bonneville car also. It’s been a while since we had a cruise, but when we went to Plainview it was a blast!
