TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF FULLY INSULATED BUSBARS TYPE ISOBUS

    1. GENERAL

Especially for the transmission of higher currents the solid insulation systems for busbars will be used. All requirementswith respect to protection of personnel and equipment are met.

    2. BUSBAR DESIGN PRINCIPLE

The conductor material can be copper (E-CU) or Aluminium (E-Al g!i"#$). The strengths of both these materials can thusbe used to optimum ad%antages. &or currents up to appro'imately """ A the conductors are solid and for higher currentsthey are tubular.

&irst a so-called high-%oltage layer is wrapped on the entire length of the current-carrying conductor. n case of possibledetachment of the insulation from the conductor# the high-%oltage layer pre%ents the formation of electrically stressed

    gaps (imminent partial discharges)

The busbar insulation according to the respecti%e %oltage le%els is wrapped on the high-%oltage layer. The insulationconsists of crepe-paper taping which will be impregnated with a special cast resin under %acuum. The busbar insulationincludes layers of semi-conducting crepe-paper for capaciti%e grading. The minimum a'ial length of the grading dependson the rated %oltage.

*esides the high-%oltage layer also the earth layer is wound continuous o%er the whole length of the busbar. t consists ofaluminium foil that is reinforced by copper stoc+ing. The earth foil is protected against mechanical damage by anadditional wrapping and additional shrin+ing slee%e co%ers indoor application. Therefore no problems withhumidity, temperature# because of cast resin insulation and special protection. &or outdoor application each busbar phaseis co%ered by metal tube and no moisture can come into insulation.

The copper strips inserted into the earth foil are brought out from the protecti%e wrapping and connected to an earthing

clamp. The location of the earthing clamp is at the discretion of the user. f no special requirements e'ist the earth-layer islocated at one end of the busbar near the end of the grading.

The manufacturing technology of pbp permits to supply any geometrical shape of busbars.

    3. RELIABILITY AND SAFETY

outine tests of each indi%idual busbar elements will be carried out before deli%ery. These tests are /ne minute power frequency test according to current standards easurement of partial discharges easurement of capacity easurement of loss factor tan 0isual inspection

1uality assurance according to 2 3 E3 !/ 4""5 """ *usbars are touchable when in operation by way of a concentric earth layer 0ery high dynamic and thermal short circuit capability !hort circuits between phases can be ruled out f a fire occurs no to'ic gases de%elop and the insulation is self-e'tinguishing Capaciti%e field control 3atural cooling
