A word about Jama’at Chennai, India...Madras (Chennai) is that fortunate city who accepted the Imam of the age during his lifetime. Added to these blessings is the fact that eleven of these Sahaba are mentioned in the Prom-ised Messiah’sas book Anjam Athim Supplement as part of a list of 313 ccompanions. Five of these eleven belong to Haji Allah Rakha’s family. Three of them belong to Melapur and the rest are from Madras. Huzoor also mentioned them in his Friday sermon dated December 12, 2008. This is a dynamic Jama’at now and by the Grace of Allah Huzoor Aqdas visited them and met with members who were overwhelmed with joy and a deep sense of gratitude to God. Huzoor inaugurated the newly built Hadi Mosque on November 28, 2008.

Reported by Asif Minhas, General Secretary, Jama’at Italy

AlthoughJama’atinItalywasformedin1990,officialregistration took place in 1993. Today Jama’at is organized at 12 locations and consists of 350 Ahmadis. Only recently the Jama’at has purchased the firstMission House in San Pietroin Casale, 20 km from the city of Bologna that houses the first EuropeanUniversity. Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V named this Mission House as Baitul Tauheed. This 900 sq meter structure was purchased on the Khilafat day of the Centennial year May 27, 2008. Jalsa Salana was organized on November 23, 2008 on the same parcel of land, 9000 m2 outside the Mission House.

May this Baitul Tauheed becomes the source to establish Tauheed in the center of trinity and all Italians accept the unity of God. Ameen.

Technology at the Service of Ahmadiyyat: Windmill in Canada

New technology and various new gadgets are being constantly utilized for promoting the cause of Ahmadiyyat. Indeed these are meant for the service of Islam. Under the instructions of Huzoor, the International Association

of Engineers is exploring the use of windpower and solar energy to meet the enrgy needs of Jama’at facilities. These experiments were conducted in Canada and Alhumdolillah both these modes are able to generate enough energy to provide electrical lights to an Exhibition hall and a house on Hadeeq-e-Ahmad, the proposed pernanent Jalsa Salana site in Canada. Huzoor Aqdas inspected both these projects and encouraged the engineers to pursue these projects on a large scale. Below we present a windmill installed on the Jalsa Gah plot Hadeeq-e- Ahmad in Canada.

Huzoor’s inspection of the newly installed windmill in

Hadeeq e Ahmad

Huzoor Aqdas proceeded to in-spect the installed windmill. Sh

Abdul Hadi, Chairman of the Archi-tect Association introduced the proj-ect. The designer of the mill, Kamran Ashraf, described the design and installation details to Huzoor. In re-sponse Huzoor appreciated the work and commented on the speedy com-pletion of the project. The capacity of the windmill is 2.6KW and the height of the tower is 50 ft. Each of the three blades is 6 ft long and the diameter is 12 ft. This is the only renewable energy project in this town of Bradford; therefore the city officialsareappreciativeof Jama’atefforts.Upon Huzoor’s inquiry regarding the site where this energy is being consumed, he was informed that the energy is being supplied to a prebuilt home on this property - Hadeeqa e Ahmad. Huzoor proceeded to the basement where the necessary con-nections have been installed. He further inquired about the production of electrical energy and its transmis-sion and advised that this informa-tion be displayed on a placard for the visitors and guests.

INSPIRATIONAL ANECDOTES: As Narrated by Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh

When Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih IIra would make the announcement of the new year of Tahrik-e-Jadid,

the passions of Jama’at members would be very high as they would rush to the of-ficeofTahrik-i-Jadidtomaketheirpledg-es. Two individuals are worth mentioning. One of them was Mohammad Ramzan, an associate Tahrik-e-Jadid worker. The other was Mohammad Bota, who was com-monly known as “Tangae wala” (the horse-drawn carriage driver). As long as they lived, they never hesitated in signing up for their Tahrik-e-Jadid pledges. What ever abil-ity Allah gave them, they always pledged a certain amount and were always ahead of everybody else infulfillingtheirpledges.Theywerethefirsttogoto the Private Secretary’s officeandwaitthereun-til they could meet them and take their pledges. In those days, people used to visit the of-ficeofPrivateSecretaryforthatpurpose.

I also want to talk about the poor laborers of that time. One of them, who was from Sialkot (Pakistan), had a day’s pay of only 2 Rupees.. He made a pledge of three Rupees. This was a tall pledge based on his earning capacity. Similarly, there was another individual who was very poor and was passing through very difficult finan-cial circumstances. He came forward and pledged ten Rupees. So this was the spirit of people of that time, who wanted to makesacrificesfortheirreligion.

As far as the blessings of Allah are concerned, they were showered on these individuals like a pouring rain. Today, when

we talk about their financial sacrifices, they seem so small that it is embarrassing to even share. But Allah’s blessing completely changed the economic status of their families. The extent of Allah’s blessing was tremendous. Today, looking at their status, it is difficult torecognize that they belong to the same poor family who lived under difficult

economic circumstances. The laborer person whom I have mentioned earlier, who started paying his chanda with thirty Rupees, has now reached an annual chanda contribution of three thousand and fivehundred Rupees. The other person who started paying his chanda with ten Rupees now has an annual chanda contribution of fivethousand Rupees. The child who started his chandawithfiveRupeesalso has a chanda

contributionlastyearofoverfivethousand. Thus, Allah blesses people of all ages and all professions. These people have made much progress spiritually. Even if we look at them from a standpoint of worldly progress, they are not found to run behindanybody.Theirprogenybenefitedtremendously from those blessings and saw much affluence. Those blessingshave not stopped yet. Those blessings did not stop at one generation. They continued on, to the second and third generations. This system of blessings will continue forward. These blessings are getting enriched with the passage of time and are ever expanding.”

SIMPLE LIVING: One of the 19 Demands of Tahrik-e-Jadid

More than seventy years ago, on initiating the scheme of Tahrik-i-Jadid in 1935, Hadhrat

Khalifatul Masih II made nineteen “demands” (mutalabat) which were subsequently increased to twenty four. Those obligations were designed to enhance the spirit of sacrifice and to uplift themoral and spiritual status of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. One of those requirements was to live a simple and austere life. He asked us to adopt simplicity in our habits concerning food, clothing, housing, furnishings and other material possessions. At the same time, he provided guidance on how to save money by not wasting it on useless activities. Simple, healthy and restorative living was expected to be a distinctive feature of Ahmadi individuals and families. His directives were based on the injunctions of the Holy Quran and in accordance with the life-style of the Holy Prophet Muhammadsa.

Everyone is aware of the current global financialcrisis that appears to worsen by day. Nations of the world are trying to solve the monetary predicaments to avoid catastrophic consequences that are affecting individuals, familiesandfinancialinstitutions, andwilltouch the lives of millions upon millions more in the nearfuture.Beingapartofthefinancialfabricoftheglobal social order, we are no exception. However, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is fortunate that our spiritual leadership has always been prayerful for our financial strength, and provided us timelyguidance to remain protected from economical disasters.

Simple living has to start by modifying our personal habits. Islam being the ‘Straight Path’ (sirat-e-mustaqeem) means that moderation, modesty, and homogeneity are required on individual level, as well the level of a household. The Holy Qur’an clearly teaches moderation in our spending: We should neither be excessive, nor miserly, and should always try to avoid mindless spending. We need to take stock of our life-styles, and make conscious and determined decisions to bring a change for the better: What dress do we wear? How many clothes do we really need? How much and what type of food we consume? How many times we go out to eat? What kind of lavish dinner parties do we throw? What type of house we live in? How much do we pay for our utilities? What kind of furniture and decorative items we purchase to beautify our homes? What type of transportation we use? And how much we spend on entertaining our minds and bodies? These are all important questions that we need to be asking

ourselves without fail. The ladies have to be conscious to find out what kind ofspending they make on items of cosmetics, jewelry, fancy clothes, shoes, perfumes, purses and other items. Men and women alike need to keep a check on their urges to follow expensive fashions and trends. We have to remember what the Holy Prophetsa said: “Modesty is part of faith” (Bukhari). It is important that we start teaching our children how to live a simple life; and it is best done by setting our personal examples for them to emulate.

For simple living, it is helpful to start with an evaluation of our physical surroundings, time and habits. Write down a simplicity statement: What is it that you would like to do to make your life simple? Clearly determine what you priorities are. Remove all the clutter, and get organized. All the things that you do not use -- the extra clothes stuffed in closets, unnecessary furniture occupying space in rooms, useless stuff piled up in garage, etc., all that need to be donated, boxed in, or just tossed away. Similarly, e-mailing, telephoning and the use of modern communication need to be brought under control by organizing your time, using it efficiently. Frugality isrequired, that is, ‘buying less, wanting less, and leaving less of a footprint on the earth.’ Use only as much money, food and other possessions as necessary. Start loving simple and plain things.

It is imperative that we live within our means. To buy things on credit, and worse still, to buy on credit cards paying excessive high finance charges is not only un-wise, it is not Islamic; it is haram – a sin. Similarly, to get addicted to the use of unhealthy substances, intoxicants and gambling are all forbidden in Islam as sins. We have to learn how to balance our domestic budgets. Simpli-fyingour lives isnotonlymateriallybeneficial, but it isalsoasignificantfactortoenhanceourspirituality.Liv-ing a luxurious life, having greed for material gains, and indulging in wasteful habits are the biggest hurdles in the way of being sincere servants of Allah. Simple living is an important factor to help maintain our focus on God. If our homes are cluttered with items that we can live without, our minds and hearts are sure to get affected by our daily surroundings. We have to be concerned all the time with our inner condition than our outward appearances. The fundamental condition of our pledge – Ba’et – is to give preference to our religious needs over our material de-sires,anditcanonlybefulfilledbylivingasimplelife.

Future of Ahmadiyyat As Observed Through Kushoof (Waking Visions)

In December 1954, Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih IIra saw another vision about Italy:

IsawthatIaminalargefield, andmanypeoplearegatheredtowardsitscenter.Iproceedtowardsthem thinking that they have invited me. When I come close to them, I notice that among them is also present Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih Ira. He walks a few steps towards me and says that the Promised Messiahah called upon you, but at the moment he has gone somewhere and has instructed me to give you a message. There exists a line of demarkation where Hazrat Masih e Mauoodas was standingsimilartowhatwefindinthegameofKabaddi.Thislineseemstorepresentaboudarybetween two countries. Hadhrat Khalifa Ira points to an area on the other side of the line known as Italy. Hadhrat Promised Messiahas desires to conquer Italy and has decided that you should be assigned this task. He further said that we would not have bothered you for such a small thing, but when we scanned the register of Allah’s plans in which names of thousands or hundreds of thousands of people were written, under the label “The conquest of Italy”, we found your name. If there would be some other names, we would not have bothered you, but now we are forced to call upon you.. At this I woke up.” (Al Fazal, Dec. 16, 1954)

Members of Jam’at Italy are attending Jalsa Salana at their newly acquired Mission House on November 23, 2008

Abdul Wahab Adam, Amir, Ghana, was sent by Huzoor to visit Jam’at Italy. He is seen standing near the Abdul Salam Center of Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. Dr. Salam was the first Muslim Nobel Laureate of Physics, 1979.

In June 1946, Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih IIra saw the following vision about Italy:

I saw that I have arrived in Italy in the company of Maulana Jalaluddin Shams. We intend to meet an Ahmadi who was imprisoned in an Italian jail. I command such a respect and awe that the auhorities do not want to create any hinderance rather assist us in meeting with this prisoner. I met the prisoner andinquiredaboutthetypeofinterogationhewassubjectedtobythegovernmentofficials.Theofficialsareequally interestedtoknowwhat informationtheprisonersharedwithme.Afterthisthere is a mention of Paighamis as well.... I understand from this vision that Allah will open the doors ofItalyinsuchawaythattherewillbesuchsignificantprogressthattheItalianGovernmentwouldfeel that it would be dangerous to keep these people. The meeting with the Pope indicates that members of his family will accept Ahmadiyyat and hence he would become nervous. (Al-Fazal, July 1, 1946 pages 1-2)

A milestone for this glorious future was carved this year on Khilafat Dayby the establishment of our Mission House.
