Carbo 510 Smart Sensor Carbo 2100 MVECO2 Analyzers for Beverages
Clever CO2 Control
Intelligent operation whatever the position
Anton Paar has a CO2 analyzer to suit your requirements. For inline CO2 monitoring, choose one of the Carbo 510 Smart Sensor versions. For online CO2 monitoring of beverages containing a high amount of other gases such as N2 or O2, choose Carbo 2100 MVE.
Carbo 510
Where would you like to read the measuring results? Carbo 510 gives you a choice of location for the display. These are the three versions of Carbo 510:
[1] Smart SensorThis Carbo 510 Smart Sensor is used in combination with Anton Paar’s mPDS 5 evaluation unit, which is a powerful system for connecting various sensors for process control. Carbo 510 Smart Sensor sends the measured values to mPDS 5 for evaluation.
[2] Smart Sensor with Operating Terminal (OT)This Carbo 510 Smart Sensor evaluates the CO2 content and shows the measurement values on the sensor's operating terminal. No evaluation unit is required. You read the measurement values and status information at the sensor’s location in the production line.
[3] Smart Sensor with Remote Operating Terminal (ROT)This Carbo 510 Smart Sensor evaluates the CO2 content and shows the measurement values on the remote operating terminal (ROT). No evaluation unit is required. The ROT can be placed up to 250 meters from the sensor’s location. The results are therefore shown wherever you want them to be, i.e. with other displays or positioned for better visibility.
Connection to your plant control system Carbo 510 Smart Sensor with OT, ROT or mPDS 5 evaluation unit delivers the results to your plant control system via analog and digital inputs and outputs, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, DeviceNet.
Carbo 2100 MVE
[4] For beverages containing a high amount of N2 or O2The Carbo 2100 MVE online sensor uses the ‘multiple volume expansion’ (MVE) method which measures the temperature and pressure equilibrium at two different volume expansions. It calculates the correct CO2 and N2 or O2 content from these values.

Fast, Hygienic, Smart
Clearly faster
Carbo 510 Smart Sensor keeps your beverage quality on target by continuously monitoring the CO2 content.
The impeller method by Anton Paar establishes pressure equilibrium in the measuring chamber in seconds and measurement takes place. A measuring cycle of only 15 seconds is fast enough to avoid out-of-spec production. When filling thousands of bottles or cans an hour, this saves you a significant amount of money by preventing rejects.
Clearly hygienic
Carbo 510 Smart Sensor is constructed according to European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG) guidelines to ensure the highest standard of hygienic design. It is an inline sensor, which means it has no bypass pipes or hoses, and is cleaned by normal CIP routines.
Carbo 510 Smart Sensor is suitable for the hygienic production of beer, soft drinks, mineral water and sparkling wine.
Clearly smart
With Carbo 510 Smart Sensor you have everything under control. The sensor provides self-diagnosis: it informs you when service is required and detects errors. Messages are shown directly on the mPDS 5 evaluation unit or sensor's operating terminal.
Built for Years of Operation
Capable under all conditions
Carbo 510 Smart Sensor works perfectly whatever the conditions, including around-the-clock production or stop-and-go conditions. The sensor is small and compact and can be easily installed in narrow sections of the pipework. The remote operating terminal can be positioned up to 250 meters away from the installed sensor, giving you results in an easily visible location.
All versions of Carbo 510 Smart Sensor are designed and built to run for years in a harsh process environment. They are rated with IP 67 and NEMA 6.
Low costs for service and maintenance
Carbo 510 Smart Sensor is designed and constructed to have long service intervals. When using the optional cut-off valve adapter the Carbo 510 Smart Sensor can be quickly removed from the production line for service and maintenance purposes. Service takes only a few minutes.
CO2 determination in the laboratory
For laboratory and at-line measurements, Anton Paar provides the CarboQC portable CO2 meter. In combination with the PFD filling system, CarboQC proves ideal for CO2 measurement directly from the bottle or can. CarboQC reliably and accurately measures the true CO2 content, uninfluenced by other gases dissolved in the beverage. It is perfectly suited for calibrating process measuring instruments.

Drift-free Method
Carbo 510 Smart Sensor uses a measuring principle based on Henry’s law. The Anton Paar ‘impeller method’ speeds up the measurement to 15 seconds per cycle.
Henry’s law documents that the volume of gas dissolved in a liquid is proportional to the partial pressure of that gas at a given temperature. Sample flows through the measuring chamber of the Carbo 510 Smart Sensor, which is then tightly sealed and expanded. This volume expansion generates a vacuum in the measuring chamber. The impeller spin causes pressure equilibrium between liquid and gas phase in seconds. The CO2 content is determined from the measured equilibrium pressure and temperature.
As there are no ageing affects on system components the measurement is drift-free. The sensor is already adjusted at the factory and delivers correct values immediately after installation. Once installed, no further adjustments are required. Carbo 510 Smart Sensor controls and checks itself.
